Closed bank account

I am FINALLY closing my Bank of America account today. I opened a new one already. I am dealing with paying off payday loan companies with 2 outstanding checks. How do I get the bank not to pay those checks after my account is closed? They told me they have to honor everything and that they reopen my account and pay them and I would have to pay the bank and the insufficient bank fees. This seems crazy to me. Can they do this?
Just tell BofA to put a Stop Payment order on the check. Hopeful
Just tell BofA to put a Stop Payment order on the check. Hopefully you have the check number and the date with you.
MOD NOTE...WRONG WRONG WRONG!! Stop payments cost $30 plus per item. You do an ACH revocation.

Tell them you are revoking ACH rights with the lenders and give them a copy. As for the checks, tell the people you sent them to not to cash it and tell them you'll send a different check from your new account.

I bank with BoA and just last week closed my account and they put a debit block on my old account until one last item clears then it will close out. After it closes out they said they will keep the hold in place and ONLY any direct deposits will feed over to our new account but anything else will just bounce off and go back with no fees to me.
You need to ask to speak with the Fraud Department. That is who I went through and they were VERY helpful and nice about everything.

Thanks. I should have put in that the checks are to Pay Day Loan companies. I am going to try to do a debt consolidation. I'll be putting in another thread to address that. I have really gotten myself into a big mess.

Thank you! I should have prefaced the question with note that these are checks to pay day loan companies. They are store fronts here in CA, so I assume they are legal. I have gotten myself into a real mess and will be posting a thread about how to deal with them while doing a debt management plan....

Debt consolidation is a bad idea to boot. Better that you handle the situation by yourself.
Good to know!
Thank you for this information! The woman at the bank said there was nothing she could do to stop anything coming in. She even told me they would have to pay the checks with a zero balance! She never gave me any options. I will call and see what I can do tomorrow.
DIY debt consolidation?
I've been reading about doing it myself on this site. I am just nervous. I agree it would probably be a good idea to call each one and see what I can do...
I have a lot of guilt about my debt...I don't like to be bullied and I feel that is what they are going to do.

Make sure you are dealing with a branch manager, not a teller and not a personal banker. Make sure that you have sent out ACH revocations....then give a copy to your bank. Under Federal Law, Reg E, you have the legal right to revoke ACH rights. I posted information in the sticky section at the top of this forum. If the branch manager is clueless or refuses, demand that she gets the district manager on the phone.
