I've not dealt with them personally, but according to some of the other members who have, they have been thrown a few curve balls here and there. I think the one thing that bothered me the most about them is the fact that they won't even begin making payments until they have all the money owed on hand? Not sure if that is true, but I read it from one of our other members somewhere. Anyway, hopefuly someone who has experience with them will be along to give you a hand. Good luck! :)

I started the process with PDL Assistance, but have decided to handle the loans on my own. There are a few things that did not set right with me.
First of all, the difference between PDL Assistance and Langhorne is that Langhorne will allow you to handle the money yourself in your own account until it is time to pay them each month.
PDL Assistance makes you open an account with another bank.
PDL Assistance gave me a LOT of mixed information that caused greater stress and confusion, for example, the original rep told me there was no way I would have to close my bank account. He told me this 4 times. I told him the rep from Langhorne told me up front that the first thing I needed to do was close it. He said "They don't know what they are doing, see we're better!" I should have stopped there...
They lowered the amount of the fee from $200 to $150 for me. He said if I paid the money that day, they would send out the "welcome kit" right away. The welcome kit consists of information that can all be found right here.
I did not get the kit for almost 2 weeks after that. So in the mean time, I was forced to close my account, which I should have done anyway. When I called to complain, the phone ran busy for 2 solid days. I was in a panic by that time and started doing research on PDL Assistance and that is how I found this site: In a google search! I sent several emails and finally got a call back on the 3rd day. But by then, I was very leary.
Weigh it out and think about very seriously before you make the decission. I am sure they do what they say they do, but I for one didn't like the idea that I have to call the Payday loan companies and tell them that they must call PDL Assistance.. Langhorne will call them for you. I also don't like the hidden fees. They tell you it's a one time $150 or $200 fee upfront, but they almost half of the "settlement" amount is a service fee. $96 a month for mine.
It might be worth it for some people, but for me it wasn't. Not with the help I got here. So I can say at this point, it looks like this wonderful site has saved me $170 a month for the next 6 months... that's $1020!!!!
Take your time and think about it. I'm very happy I did!

Leslie,
I completely understand. I was exactly where you are now about 2 weeks ago. I mean exactly. I had not missed any of the payments to the pdl's until I had signed up with the company.
The people here are friendly and helpful. It's a great community. I've not been here long, but I'm thrilled I found them! That money I would have paid PDL Assistance is going toward paying off my gas bill so I can lower my budget amount!!
Check out some of the other threads and post all your information so they can help you here. That much doesn't cost you anything and you might find out something that saves you a lot of stress and money :)

Here is typically what you would do wither you hire PDL Assistan
Here is typically what you would do wither you hire PDL Assistance or Langhorne or any other pay day loan settlement company or if decide do it on your own.
First you would want to go into you bank and speak with the Branch Manager and have them put a ACH block " also known as a Hard Hold " so these Pay day loan places can`t get any more money from your account.Eventually you would want to close that account , but the hard hold will stop the pdl places till you can close the account.
These accounts will have to be delinquent typically for the PDL places to negotiate.
PDL Assistance or Langhorne or any other pdl settlement company will work with you to establish a savings program that will be used to pay off your debts over a period of usually 6 to 12 months. Both PDL Assistance and Langhorne hold the money in another account so they make sure you don`t spend it when you need to be saving it to use to eventually settle with the pay day loan companys. You will have one monthly payment and the amount you will pay back is typically between 30% and 60% of the amount owed when you joined the program. These companies have bills to pay just like you so yes they charge some fees up front and it could take 60-90 days sometimes for your first settlement. You will save more money doing this on your own and this site has all the info you need if you want to try and do that. But if you don`t want to deal with the hassle of settling on your own you may want to hire a company like PDL Assistance or Langhorne to help you but expect it to take a little longer to rid your self of the debt because you will pay some fees to these companies who do all the dirty work for you.
Either option is good depending on what you want to do. :D

I certainly don't want to give the wrong impression. Things always look worse when you're under a lot of stress. I do think those assistance companies are good for people who don't want to deal with it on their own. I just wanted to share my experience. I do think that in some cases it is worth it to pay someone else to deal with these people. They can be awful to deal with.

Oh boy, Texas, the state I always have problems decyphering the CSO's from the PDL's. :? Don't mind me, I get all confused about the CSO and PDL thingie. OK, let's start with your laws below. Here they are, and you may need them to copy and paste into emails you will need to send some of these pdl's. :) I am placing a link here, this link is to search the licensee data base to see if these pdl's have a license to lend in your state. Although, I'm not sure, they may only need a license anywhere in the US and still be allowed to lend to Texas residents also, anyone know about this? Please jump in and clarify if ya will.

Welcome, fellow name sharer! I too considered having someone "negotiate" for me but I didn't like the way it would be handled and I didn't like the attitude I was getting. On top of that it was going to cost me big bucks to settle 5 PDLs, 2 of which were already PIF. I jumped in and within 3 months I had all 5 cleared. It does take determination and time but it can be done. I have never gotten into the interpretation of state laws so I always leave that to those who have. Follow the step by step on here and you will be okay.

Ok stay calm :D CPD is full of crap..lol. First off they cannot obtain a judgment against you for a PDL. Second, they are ILLEGAL as heck!! They are collecting for PayDayMax which is located in Canada. Highly ILLEGAL  Have you paid anything to PayDayMax yet? If so that counts towards the principal. I have dealt with them and others here on the forum. They are known for settling for the principal amount owed. You will need to send them a letter stating your intent to pay principal and make sure and list your state laws in there as well. Just point out the fact you are know educated of your legal rights and obligations in your state.
And don't forget to include the cease and desist in your letter.
And don't forget to include the cease and desist in your letter. I've also seen people post that you should tell them they are not authorized to contact your references or your employer. I'm not sure if that does any good or not.
And make sure that you revoke any wage assignment agreements that you may have made.

Ok Think Cash, Cashnet, PayDayOne, and Ace Cash are all LEGAL and Licensed. Aslo Think Cash is not a PDL but a "installment loan" company backed by a bank. You will need to contact them directly to try and work a paid in full agreement due to you paying them over the principal already. You should also be able to set up arrangments with PayDayOne, Cashnet, and Ace Cash.
Little Loand Shop is full of crap as well. They claim they are licensed in Utah and they are an "installment loan". They ARE NOT  Be cautious of this they will try and drain you for 10 equal payments of $90. You need to send them letters as well stating your state laws and your intention of paying ONLY amount borrowed. You also need to file complaints with the AG office of your state and the BBB.

I'm getting more and more scared after reading these posts. I know you all have seemed to made some progress with this, but it all seems pretty hopeless right now. Payday Assistance is supposedly going to help me with 3 of my loans, the other 3 I haven't made any payments to and they say they can't help with them yet. I'm afraid to call them because honestly I will have a really hard time making payment arrangements. I just don't have the extra money to pay them. I don't know what to do. Any words of encouragement or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Mooreleslie79, to tell you the truth, the only way to get the PDLs to accept your payment arrangments or even negotiate is to default on them. Once they are on default status they will be more open to getting there money back and might be easier to deal with. Do not get me wrong, you can call them ahead of time and see if you can work out something, but use Caution in this. If they know you will default, they will sometimes debit the entire loan amount. Is your bank account closed yet?

I do not understand why PDL Assistance is turning away the unpaid PDLs :? Anywayz, if do a search on this forum and you will see more advice in handeling those three PDLs. Yes, no lie :D They were all ILLEGAL in my state, and only 1 out of 11 were licensed. Also I overpaid 7 of them by hundreds. I got 2 refunds and 6 "PIF" so far. The rest of them were offshore, so they eventually gave up and never called me at all :) To tell you the truth I never got harrased or anything from any of them when I defaulted, I guess God heard my prayers. Yes, my friend, it can be done. I had 5 PDLs when I came here in February and as of the beginning of May, I have cleared all of them. I am in New York State and they are illegal here so I think that helped my case along. I had one offshore and when I finally got to the administrator, she apologized for the way I was being treated and squashed my loan with $293 still owing! 2 were with MNE and the other two were affiliated with Credit Protection Depot. A few letters, a few faxes, a call to their processor/administrator and their bank, and away they went! I agree with anyaroberts, it might not be as bad as you are envisioning. Hang tight. This too will soon end.

I live in New York and PLDs are illegal here as well. I came here in February with 5 PDLs and beginning of May I had none! I received one phone call from CPD about my MyCashNow and PayDayMax account. I immediately faxed over my C and D letter to one Mr. William Reed and the next thing I knew I had a PIF on one and the other a PIF with just the remaining balance on the principal being paid. If you really need a boost, ACHC processes for PayDayMax. I had one offshore and I actually got a very nice letter from the administrator, (once I located an email address for her) forgiving my loan for all the grief they gave me. That was a $293.00 savings on my part! I never once went into this expecting not to repay what I borrowed but the heavens were looking out for me and poof. . . .they were all gone! You can do this yourself. Just follow the advice you are given on this board.

I am going through the same thing right now. I also live in Indiana. Do some research on this site, you will find a TON of knowledge!
Here is the laws that I found on this site for Indiana:
You will find the Payday loan laws for Indiana here (just select your state),
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/explain-pdls-laws.html
The first thing I would do is stop the withdraws from your account. Read some of the other post on this. Namely this one: http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/close-account.html Talk to your bank, don't be embarrassed or ashamed, my bank was great working with me.
Second, send each of your pdl's an email telling them they may not contact you any way other than via email or USPS. Here is a sample of the email I sent to all three of mine:
Quote:
I am formally requesting verification that the company is licensed within the state of Indiana, a validation of my debt and total amount owed including fees, validation of any amounts paid by me towards the principal of the loan, and a copy of my original loan contract and all forms signed by myself, either electronically or otherwise. I am revoking any wage assignments agreements I may or may not have signed effective immediatly (6-24-2008) You may contact me via email or USPS with the address on file only. It appears that you are in violation of Indiana State Law. Please see information below. Thank you in advance. Jennifer Bailey |
I also included a copy and pasted this infor at the bottom of the email:

Depending on the type of loan being offered, your company is in violation of IC 24-4.5- 3-502 and/or IC 24-4.5-7-102. These statutes reference consumer loans, and/or Small Loans (commonly referred to as ???????Payday Loans???????) and require a license issued by this office in order to make these consumer loans. During the recently concluded session of the Indiana General Assembly, there was a change to the statute governing the territorial application of the Indiana Uniform Consumer Credit Code, including the Indiana Small Loan Act. Effective July 1, 2007, IC 24-4.5-1-201 requires internet lenders to be licensed, and to comply with Indiana law, when making loans to Indiana residents. Additionally, IC 24-4.5-1-201( reads ???????If a creditor has violated the provisions of this article that apply to the authority to make consumer loans (IC 24-4.5-3-502), the loan is void and the debtor is not obligated to pay either the principal or loan finance charge, as set forth in IC 24-4.5-5-202.??????? You are advised to Cease and Desist the offering of these types of loans to Indiana residents unless/until you have obtained the proper Indiana loan license. Consumers will be advised that these loans are not in compliance with Indiana Statutes and that these loans are considered null and void, and as a result, uncollectible. Additionally, the Department may seek injunctive relief under IC 24-4.5-6 in the event of continued noncompliance. All Financial Institutions operating within the state of Indiana will be advised that electronic payment and / or paper/check transactions connected with these illegal loans should be rejected if an entity is unlicensed. It will take some time and patience, but it is worth it in the end. There is a place to check and see if the PDL companies are licensed in Indiana but I can't seem to find it again, but my bet would be if they refuse to validate their license, they probably are not licensed. And in Indiana, if they are not licensed, they are not legal! I hope this helps! Stay positive, the people here are great. I hope it works out for you!
