Could someone let me kow if the following PDL companies are legal in California? After reading through this site, and doing my own research, I see that several of them are not licensed in Cali or legal period. Could you please advise the steps I can take to stop paying the ridiculous finance charges. I even sought out an attorney to help me. Thank you!!;)
Zip19 - they are in the Republic of Malta

Federated Financial Services Limited - they are in Manchester, England

500FastCash - just saw that this is a company with a lawsuit against them, or him.

Eastside Lenders

Oasis

Bottom Dollar Payday

CashNetUSA

Kristen, I am also in California and am here to tell you it can be done, because I have done it. If any of these lenders gives you any crap, don't hesitate to call the Dept of Corporations and report them. They will be your best friends. Also, is there any way you can work something out with your landlord re paying rent late? I just hate to see you have to get another PDL, as the cycle would continue and you'll never break free of it.

I can only tell you what worked for me. (I am also in California). You need to sit down, write down how much your original loan was for, and total up all payments made. If your loan was for $500 and you've paid $600, for example, you have overpaid your loan by $100 and are entitled to a refund for the same amount.
You then need to write a cease and desist letter to each illegal lender, saying that the gravy train has stopped and you are ending your ACH authorizations out of your checking account. The best thing to do here is to actually close your account and get a new one, if your bank will do it. Most will.
I also filed claims with the California Dept of Corporations after I got the famous "we're filing charges against you, good luck" call at work. (I kinda would've liked to see a lender who has been banned in California in court, lol!!)
Keep us posted. We care, because we've all been through it.

Zip 19 was served with a Desist & Refrain order from CA a while ago. I had obtained loans from them and once I had the proper information I sent them over an email and never heard back from them.
Eastside Lenders is not lincensed in CA but I found them easy to work with. I received a PIF letter from them and The BBB even helped me out.

Continue checking the Department of Corporations site they have all the orders that have been served on there. Makre sure when contacting these lenders you have all your figures ($) correct, how many times you've loaned, how much you loaned, what you paid them back and how much they owe you.
Although it is frustrating to know you have overpaid and might not get a refund you atleast get the loans marked as PIF.

If you have direct deposit I would make sure to cancel it w/ your employer so that it doesn't go through. Make sure to close your bank account and then send out the notices. Check the department of corporations website to see if any of these lenders have been served. It will make the process easier for you. Make sure you calculate how much you have overpaid them and add that all into your letters. ex. how many loans, how much you loaned and how much you paid them back. Calculate all the amounts if you have overpaid them make sure to tell them you want a PIF Letter.

Kristen : I've dealt with them as I am in California as well. They are illegal and all you have to do is pay back the principal amount. They don't give you a hard time since they know already the are illegal in California !
Good luck thru your process it does work. I had 7 illegal PDLs that I personally got off my back

So I read that the lawsuit to 500FastCash was overturned? I got a call from 500FastCash today at work. They are asking for payment. I asked them to provide a license #. I said I even though I do not have to, I will pay the principle down on my terms. He said when will I pay this. I asked him as soon as he sends me a license number. He hung up. What should I expect? I did take SoapLady's steps of dealing with these lenders. I'm just curious if they are allowed to collect from me. I will be sending a C/D letter tomorrow, (i told him this, and he gave me the address to mail it to). Are they still an illegal tribal company? Thank you for your time people. :)

I live in California and I have 4 payday loans. I've read a little bit about closing my acct and making payments on my own terms. Does this really work?

What I would like to do is close my bank acct before friday, and then call each lender and make new arrangements without additional fees. Can I do this?
United cash loans-1st payment is scheduled for 1/25/13 $650+fee
mynextdaycash 1st due 1/25/13 $500 +$150 fee
peppercash $750 +$187.50 fee
yescash $600 +$150 fee.
please don't judge me. i know my mistakes, but I have had a lot of crap happen to our family in the last 3 months and its snowballed our finances out of control.
I just need to get back on track and am looking for advise, support to walk me thru it.
I also feel like i should get one more loan because i won't be able to make rent on the first, ugh, how do I avoid this vicious cycle? Are there laws in california that can help me fight these?
Thank you for your help
K
