So I get this phone call at work on my voice mail saying "This is Karen Peters I have a complaint for a bad check for you in my office. You have one opportunity to contact the plaintiff or you will be served with a summons." Then she gave a phone number. I knew it was probably an Illegal PDL but I was intrigued so I called back. Sure enough, the "complaint" was from E Payday Loans and Payday Loan Yes. Oddly enough the balance was over $600 for both and I only borred $250 and $300. Hmm.. Anyway I told the gentleman that I would be more than happy to pay via money order and he said that wasn't an option. He said "I can't call my clients and tell them hey she wants to pay by money order via the mail. They'll tell me to jump off of a bridge" and I said "well that's funny because I offered to do this THEN and they declined" he said "Well I can't help you" and I said "Fine" Then he says "well do you still work at ...." which oddly enogh the company he said was not my employed but the company who handles our payroll. Question-should I revoke all wage assignments? and how should I go about this? Oddly enough, they couldn't garnish me anyway because I'm already being garsnished for a medical bill and per MS law you can only be garnished one at a time

This sounds exactly like the same call I got last month...they called my neighbor and my job..when they called my job they said asked when would be a good time to serve me with papers...so of course my response was "anytime you want". These people are idiots I called the guy out on everything and finally he got mad and told me that when I come to my senses they could help me then he hung up on me. So one minute I'm "being served" and the next I need to come to my senses. The bottom feeders are going by the name The Bar Group, I called them one evening and asked the girl that answered the phone where they were located, she hesitated and said Phoenix, Arizona. The are attempting to collect for payday loan yes. I only owe $35 on principal for my loan and they want me to pay $600. The have called back only once in the past month with the same "we have a summons for you" crap. I can say that they get very flustered when you aren't afraid of them.

I know these people are creeps...but it is STILL a stressful situation to be in. I found out they call my sisters and my parents ALL the time talking about a "bad check." My sister said that the caller id always says "unavailable" so she never answers it. I HATE being in this situation. My family is all worked up now. I told them they were illegal and a scam and not to pay attention to them. But I'm not sure they believe me

You are SO right; too, I think they have "scripts" they have to read and if you throw them off track, they get all discomboobolated! On one of mine, when they started their spiel, I'd ask them how everything was down on the reservation; "Huh? What are you talking about?" I'd say, "well, you're with MNE or MTE, aren't you? You're located on tribal lands," and I'd go on and on... sometimes they'd hang up on ME!!

These guys are blowing hot air. They probably are in a side office somewhere collecting money from innocent people. PLEASE PLEASE HANG UP when they call back. SCAM SCAM SCAM!

Tell them to take their mini miranda rights and shove it! You cannot go to jail for this, who are they kidding LOL! Tell them debts are civil matters and not a criminal offense ;)

I believe I read somewhere they can't do a thing to if they haven't provided to you a "Proof of Debtor" letter. I called "The Bar Group". I don't know if they go by another name but the only thing I can find on the Bar Group online is scams. The first lady I got on the phone after listening to my message about a "Summons" was some rude ass lady who couldn't have more than 100 words in her vocabulary. Very dumb. Said "You don't remember sittin' in fron of a computer askin for money? You don remember 'Pay Day Loan' puttin that money in your wells Fargo account?" When I told her I wanted the letter she set the phone on the desk and told some guy "She wan a letta". So a very nice gentleman got on the phone and went over all the details. Said he couldn't fax me the verification letter but he could send one. He couldn't promise me that I wouldn't get served to show up in court while I was waiting for this letter. Then he promised to settle for around $400.00 even though he shows I've already paid off the loan. He went into some long drawn out explanation that the loan was paid off but then it went to collections and then it went to him, and now I owed $600.00. I told him people have tried to scam me before so I really do need this letter if I am to settle. He said he'd email it to me... Funny how before he was full of threats on a time line because he could only mail it to me through the postal service. Now they have the technology to send the letter through an email? Ha! I'm waiting for the email now, but reading these posts it looks like I'll be waiting for a while.

Well, I received the same phone call at work from Karen Peters regarding a summons that was waiting to be delivered to me. So I asked her who the complainent was and she did not know she told me it was some kind of law firm involved and that she just wanted to give me an opportunity to handle this. So I called the Bar group and got a very nice girl who told me that my original bill was $100.00 and that they wanted to charge me $500.00 for a bad check fee and $325.00 for court cost but she could waive all those fees if I paid the $100.00 today. So I gave them a credit card and paid so that I will have them off my back.

Well if you DID pay them $100 on the basis of their phone call (I would've asked for something in writing), I hope to goodness that you got a prepaid credit card and didn't give them your personal credit card information. If you did, PLEASE keep a careful watch on that credit card account.

This call is bullshit for the following reasons:

1-writing a bad check is a criminal offense, not a civil one. A guy who initiates a criminal case is a "complainant", not a "plaintiff"

2-if this were legit, the call would be coming from law enforcement. Warning someone of an impending arrest would be law enforcement so shitty it would make that psycho in Arizona seem like cop of the year

3- the premise is absurd. I find it hard to imagine law enforcement would contact a guy who stole a TV saying "we know you broke the law and all but if you return the TV tonight, we'll just pretend this never happened"

1- you should have used "had" where you used "would have"
2- there should be a comma after "with" in sentence #2
3- there should be no comma after "owe"
4- "yall" isn't a word
5- "deadbeat" is one word
6- "advise" is a verb, you're looking for the noun "advice"

I hope English is not your native language.

May I....?
7 - "Why," "if," and "my" should have been capitalized.
8 - "Yall" IS considered a word in some dictionaries; however, it should be written as ya'll or y'all.

;)
