I received a call from this number today (205) 637-9345. The gentleman sounded Indian and said that my attorney or I needed to call him about an important matter. I couldn't make out his name, but he referenced an attorney's office. The number is a cellphone or unlisted number in Alabama. I called to see if was some scam and the person answered by stating the name of the attorney's office (I still couldn't make it out) and said he was attorney so and so. I have dealt with lawyers in the past and know they don't answer the phone by saying attorney so and so. I'm pretty sure this is a scam. Any advice?

I thought that might be the case since I got calls before I had loans. Just thought it could be connected since I'm dealing with these lenders. Speaking of the lenders, I haven't heard anything and I've now missed 2 payments on all my accounts.

They are scam artists. Don’t rely on their words and don’t share any personal information with them. Next time, if they call you back hang up on them.

I thought so. I blocked the number and don't answer calls if I don't recognize the number.

I have gotten calls like this stating they are either from an attorney's office or legal department for a collection agency. Same accent and same scare tactics.

If a "attorney" threatens me with legal action I state when were the charges filed. If they state no charges have been filed yet but I need to pay them now, I tell them to send it to me in writing. If they refuse then there is nothing they can do. I also do a search in my local legal jurisdiction online and I also call my local police department. I one fake attorney tell me charges were filed for check fraud but would be dropped if I paid right away. I called my local police and nothing was filed. I ignored the calls after this. That was eight months ago. No charges yet

you really cant't make them stop. Just ignore them and stay off the phone. If the calls persist, get as much information about them and report them to your state's AG and the FTC.

He is def a scam artist, he goes by the James Murphy or Michael . My friend was scammed by him saying a warrant was going to be issued for her arrest if she didn't pay, he made her get a pre paid visa, she was so scared. I contacted him myself and he would not give any type of lawyer information, finally he told me he is a scammer after I called him out on all his lies, he called me a few choice words. Pathetic!

Will do. Haven't heard from the lenders and I guess I shouldn't complain, but it's kinda weird I haven't heard anything.

The anonymous number itself, is a red flag. I strongly suggest you report that call to http://www.callercenter.com and the FTC in an attempt to shut the scam down.

You may contact your telephone service provider, too, and have them block the caller so that they're never able to call you again.

My mom got caught into this and took 624, he even had the nerve to say God Bless. There is a special place in Hell for people like him to take advantage of innocent people
