I live in WA and have pay day loans with 4 compnies. One called me today and threatened me to have me served at my work. I asked them not to contact me at work. They also said that i could be in trouble since I seem to have taken the pay day loan out with no intention to pay it back. How could they possibly prove intention. What do I do?

Hey,

If the payday loan companies are legal in your state, you have to repay both the principal amount and the interest rate that you owe them. Check your state laws as suggested by Soap Lady. Don't worry about your lenders taking criminal action against you as debts are civil and not criminal! If they disturb you at your workplace, send them a letter requesting them not to do the same as they're not supposed to call anyone else but you for the money.

You should contact with the Washington Department of Financial Institutions in order to know whether or not pdl companies are licensed in your state. Their contact detail is as follows: Address - Division of Consumer Services, PO Box 41200 Olympia WA 98504, # Phone - (360) 902-8700, # Fax - (360) 725-7827. If they are not licensed, then you can get rid of the debts by paying them only the principal amount. If you have paid them more than the principal amount, then ask them for the refund. Illegal lenders won???t be able to take any legal action against you.
