i got ripped off by someone who said they were with an attorney and said i was being taken to court the next day if i did not send money i owed on a loan and i would be arrested told my friend this as well dont know where they got her name but at any rate it scared me so bad i went purchased a prepaid credit card put 500 hundred dollars on it called him gave him the number faxed an apology letter to them and they took the money but it went to a driving school in bronx ny well he said he would contact me this coming month for another 500 hundred dollars i went to a lawyer showed him my bank accounts and the credit card statement and i never took the loan out and the company it was sent to will not talk to me so if he calls this month i am going to tell him i want my money back and if he tries to say i am going to be sued and put in jail i will tell him bring it on am tired of being scammed i use to trust people now i am very wary of anyone or anything anymore i pray god forgives them cause these kind of people need to be in jail i am on ssi and social security too old for this crap

Mornin' Virginia -

Are you living in the state of New York? NYC? What sort of loan or other debt did the man who called you say he was collecting on? Did he say what company he was working for, or the name of the creditor?

You said you spoke to lawyer. Was that your attorney, or theirs? And what did he tell you? I'd like to help you, but you need to give me some information to work with.

That's better.

I'm with your lawyer on this one. Going to a driving school in the Bronx?... Definitely fishy. What sort of prepaid credit card did you use to make this transaction? And, please pardon me for breaking the old Southern maxim about never asking a lady her age, but how old are you? I have an honorable reason for asking.

Wow you got robbed. But I did the same thing and only lost $250. Even if someone "takes you to court", you have to be served a notice and have an opportunity to respond, in Ohio it is 28 days. Everyone threatens to sue, hoping you will get scared and cave in. Lawsuits take time and the court will not award the other person without hearing from you, unless you follow the courts proceedures. In this matter, call an attorney. If you were a victim of a crime, and you were, the police and/or investigators have the tools to obtains records, business info and other info needed to solve the crime.Next time you get a call, have them send you something so you validate who they are. I had someone calling me and finally they gave up because I insisted on them producting me with information, either a letter website address, ect. After a week they stopped. Another trick is to tell them the call in being recorded.

I would take any and all information you have on this outfit and contact your State attorney generals' office as well as the agency responsible for financial regulations in your State. Do you have any of their telephone numbers, names, etc., at all? It's possible that someone on this site has had dealings with them.
