There have been several posts that have mentioned telling the pdl's when they call that you are recording the call. How would I do this - actually record the phone conversation - on my work phone and/or cell phone? Thanks for all your help.

If you are going to record a call, you have to make sure you inform the caller at the beginning of the conversation that the call is being recorded.
I have a pocket recorder and when I got called from Payday-Loan-Yes who has been harassing me for weeks at work, the first thing I told the woman was that the call was being recorded and she immediately hung up.
Scare tactics also work both ways.
The PDL's sure know how to use them on us.

I live in Ky,which is a one-party state as far as recording a call goes. But you are absolutely right, kak213, about the scare tactics these pdl's will use, and how it works BOTH ways!!! I've even come across some posts of "pdl owner", while engaged in this predatory type of business, "benevolently" give good info on how to keep them from coming to your job!

Thanks for the "compliment". The only problem with recording the calls is that for it to do any good, you have to be able to persue the issue in the courts. If they are illegal and cover thier tracks or are based out of the country, it will do no good. Make sure that YOU are not violating the laws of your state regarding the recording of calls and it can be a very good tool to reduce the calls.

Does anyone know the laws for California for recording calls with debt collectors? I am being harassed by MRS associates. I do not believe I owe this debt and I have asked for verification information which they have refused to send me. It gets far worse from there. I understand they have a horrible rep. for unethical and border in illegal practices. I for one will not fall victim. I will be taking action and want to follow the letter of the law myself.
