ok, so I've made some progress this week, however the next thing the phone will start ringing. We are going over our budget this weekend to get a plan to pay them all off. So my question today is, can they refuse a payment? If so, how do they get away with refusing? From what I can see right now, we can have everyone paid off within 6 months, so each one would get about 100 a month.

I've read many of you say how they called you repeatedly and called your references, I'm just trying to get a feeling of why they did that if you were making payments. Or was this cause you weren't in a position that you could make payments at that time.

Also for internet loans, I'm assuming you mailed them payments rather than allowing them back in your bank account? Thanks Reny

Hi. The only way they will call your references is if they cannot get in touch with you. If you let them know that you are not trying to avoid them then they will have no reason to call your references. $100 per month is a pretty hefty amount, so they will probably accept that much. Also, this will show an attempt to pay if they decide to take it to court. It isn't likely that they will, being that you are paying them. Their objective is to get money, so some is better than none. :-)

Storefronts will call everyone under the sun if they can not get in contact with you. You want to stay in constant communication with storefronts to prevent this from happening. And, yes, some storefronts will refuse payments. Some are just down right nasty. It just depends on the storefront. Some will take your offer, some won't. Depends on what their "procedures" or "policys" are. Each one will be different. As for the internet, if they can no longer access your bank account to debit, then you can offer to make payments. Most will "demand" Western Union or Money Gram. Stay firm and try to get a physical address to mail money orders to. If they know you are willing to pay and they want their money, they'll give you an address to mail a money order to.
