Question about collections calls
I have been getting these calls for the past couple of days and am waiting for a reply from the attorney generals office as to what to do, they divulge my information to a 3rd party(receptionist at work) and also have told her that she was rude because she said they shouldnt be giving out that info. The number they leave to return a call is the original creditor?? Would "servers" even call to tell you that they were coming out or to give you a chance to "stop the process". Im guessing they are doing something wrong here??
Thanks

Can I ask you something? Is this person calling about a payday loan? If so, you can do a search of this forum and read countless stories that are similar if not identical.
Or, is this a different kind of debt?

Yes it is...I have asked this same question on another thread but havent gotten a reply and saw this one so thought I would ask. I did research and come to find out the company is not legal to do loans in my state,,
How much did you pay them vs. how much borrowed before you close
How much did you pay them vs. how much borrowed before you closed your account.
Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to get them to stop calling other than, stop talking to them. Eventually, they'll go away because they'll tire of not having anyone to harass.
FYI - generally, you get a much faster response if you start your own thread rather than adding a question on to the end of an old one.
Glad I saw this. Hope this helps.
You don't have to start a new thread after I've already answered

My question wasnt answered tho which is why I started a new one to see if maybe someone else knew the answers while I wait for the AG to reply. I asked a few questions, I wanted to know if "servers" would call ahead of time and what to do about them divulging information to a 3rd party?
Sorry, I didn't realize you'd asked additional questions. No,

No, generally a process server will not call ahead of time. Their advantage is the element of surprise. Calling ahead sort of eliminates that advantage.
No, they are not supposed to divulge your info to a third party. However, this company is lending money illegally to begin with so, they obviously don't give a rip about the law.
Most of these outfits are offshore or operating within "exempt" areas so, they don't care about our laws.
Who's the lender, by the way?

Thats what i thought about them calling ahead....i kinda figured that was a scare tactic. United cash Loans is the place. I have no problem paying what I borrowed and nothing more but unfortunately this was from 2007 and the account has long been closed by the bank so I dont know what they have already recieved for payment. Do you think I am ok waiting to hear from the AG office before I attempt to talk to these "people"?

Also, I suggest you file a complaint with MA's Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.
