i knew i would come back to this site. i need some help in dealing with the same situation i see a lot of other people find themselves in... i have four payday loans out. i have been planning on closing my account at chase and setting up another acct at a different bank. i have in fact already made preparations and have the account at the other bank set up. so i inquired at chase about closing my account. they have a grace period of 35 days! if i close out the account the paydays can hit and open it back up anytime during that period. so now it seems i maybe back to square one. i cannot afford to make these payments any longer ... i dont make that much and the little extra i have is going to these loans. i keep going into overdraft because i no longer have any surplus and if i dont find a way to handle this situation i may eventually find myself out on the streets. i have a family to support... what can i do? whatever advice you have will be welcome. thanks!

I was much more fortunate at my bank when I needed to close it. When I signed the form, that was it. The account was closed, period. But I know how frustrating it must be to have to wait that long! I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I would say that if you have direct deposit, talk to payroll immediately and see about getting a paper check for awhile. At least that way, there won't be any more of your hard earned money going into your closed account-closed or otherwise!!!

i had problems with my bank like that. talk to the branch manager and if s/he cannot help, go to corporate (I had to before). Tell them the situation, they can make it deposit only and there are ways to permanatly close it. Just keep asking until someone listens.
The NSFs fees can cause real harm and it could hurt your banking abilities.
