Personal Loan vs Payday Loan

I am dealing with a company (SFG Marketing) that is a real pain. Constant phone calls (despite asking them to stop), threats, inaccurate information (my bank would be calling me because the stop payment I put on my account is illegal and SFG filed the correct paperwork to have this removed), that my account is now with ChexSystems and they would be freezing any all accounts under my name and/or social security number...yada yada yada. Anyways, my question is this... they claim they offer personal loans vs payday loans and I don't really see a difference. Is there one? I am in MN and I know payday loan lenders have to be licensed but do companies claiming to be personal loan companies have to be licensed? I personally don't believe they have a leg to stand and their threats of having me charged with theft and fraud and passing bad checks don't intimidate me in the least. But I do want to be armed with accurate information so any help would be much appreciated!

Is SFG the name of the company you obtained the loan through? I can't find them as a licensed lender for MN in any capacity (CSO, small loan, PDL, etc.) I did find an SFG Mortgage but I have a feeling that's not who you're dealing with. All lenders have to be licensed. Was this an online loan? Does the co. have another name they're using as a dba?

It was SFG Marketing Group. But I also determined (through an email correspondance from them) that they are also Sentinel FCG based in Williamsville, NY. I also looked on the Dept of Commerce website and could not find them. I found the same SFG Mortgage (which is not the same) and an entry for Sentinel (that is not the same).

They are strictly internet based, no store front.

I figured but just thought I would check. The email that they sent me was absolutely ridiculous. It was full of spelling and grammatical errors, they called me a thief, immature, uneducated. Said they would pursue criminal charges against me and my references, that they are not required to follow any Federal or State laws since their contract states that they don't have to. It is actually pretty humorous. So are their voicemails. I can certainly see how it would work to scare someone into paying though. Unfortunately for them, I am not just "someone".

I did go through all the appropriate channels though. I faxed my ACH revocation (3 times), received confirmation 3 times, brought a copy to my bank, signed their paperwork, saved all their voicemails and emails (including the ones that said they received my ACH revocation but wouldn't be honoring it), the copy of the ACH they tried to send through after my revocation. I sent all that information to the Dept of Conmerce, Attorney General's Office (in my state and theirs) and filed complaints with the FTC and BBB.

From the sounds of it you are having a hard time with this company and I may be able to help you. I do have a few questions for you though. Did you intend on paying them back for the money you borrowed? What caused you not to pay them back? Did you return the loan to them?

odd how there was no answer to this question. I see a lot of "bottom feeder" being used. Odd how someone with no credit, would turn to someone for a loan, then steal the money and start calling the loan company a "bottom feeder". i would watch out. If these companies are the scum you claim them to be, I wouldn't feel safe until the money was paid back. I know if you stole from me, Id send someone to collect personally.

Well, you are not welcome here Guest. You illegal collectors cannot take any legal actions, just remember that. And you can keep your threats to yourself, since no one here, in this site, are afraid of these threats.
