hello! i was contacted by a so called state of attorneys office Mr.Pickett today at my employers office and when he called the first time i hung up phone so he called back and asked for a supervisor. my supervisor got on the phone with my administrator and he was telling them i was going to be served at my employers and be arrested because of nonpayment of a payday loan. I live in Florida. i called our county's attorneys office and they told me i didn't have any charges at this time so do you think this was a bogus call? i also think my employer shouldn't be discussing any personal information without me present. Can you tell me the laws and what could happen to me? Will i go to jail and be arrested at my employers?
You cannot be arrested for failure to repay a loan simply becaus
You cannot be arrested for failure to repay a loan simply because its a civil offence. Moreover, collectors cannot contact you at your place of employment if you ask them not to. Your employer is not at fault here, the collectors are. Go through an overview of the FDCPA and you will get a decent idea of what your rights as a consumer are when it comes to dealing with debt collectors.
Did you find out who was calling you? The name of the company? Have you taken a payday loan or defaulted on one recently?
