Got an email from Star Advance today regarding my PDL with them. How stupid do they think I am. It went on and on about what I good customer I was and if I wanted to remain in good standing (for future loans) they were "offering" me 4 different payment plans which ranged from $460.60 to $645.07 on a $400 loan to which I have already paid $106.80. They were kind enough to break in down into "principal" and "fees" which indicates just how much of a rip off they really are. I can pay this over an 8 weeks period to "help" me out with my finances. This is what I sent back to them.


While I appreciate your effort to have this account paid in full, I must disagree with what you are proposing.

First of all, I have been sending you law citations for the State of New York which indicate that loans of this variety are illegal in this State. Therefore, I am only responsible to return to you a dollar amount which was deposited into my bank account. The original amount of my loan was $400.00. I have already paid $106.80 on that amount leaving a balance owed of $293.20. I have also filed complaints on your loan practice with the BBB, the FTC and my State's Attorney General. I will also be forwarding to the above mentioned authorities, a copy of your most recent proposals and the dollar amounts to which you expect me to comply, as written proof of the the illegality of your operation to New York State residents.

At this time, I am requesting that ALL the monies paid thus far be applied to the original dollar amount deposited into my account. The remaining balance of $293.20 will be paid, on a monthly basis, and in a dollar amount which is mutually acceptable to both of us, and will commence on May 1, 2008. As I am morally and ethically obligated to repay what I borrowed, this is a good faith offer on my part.

I do hope that we can settle this issue amicably and as quickly as possible. A response to the above referenced email will confirm acceptance of this proposal or a PIF status to my account.

Kash...I am not too worried about them. I guess I can't blame them for trying their best to get what they can but that doesn't mean I have to comply. So, I am assuming that you had contact with them regarding payment before they "gave up"? How long did it take for them to realize you weren't "biting"? Thanks a bunch.

Thanks guys! The emailed I received yesterday was the first one I got since I closed my account. I reminded them of the "illegal" status in my return email and am hoping that will be the end of it. I did offer to make arrangements which was mutally agreeable, so we shall see what we shall see.
