~I closed my bank account and made sure that my bank wouldn't re-open it later and allow them into my account to go crazy.
~I contacted the accounting dept at work and they are refusing to honor the wage assignment/garnishments from the PDL companies.
~I sent the PDL's a revoke wage assignment/garnishment letter and stated various MD laws and statutes why they couldn't use it.
~I also emailed and faxed the PDL's a .pdf copy of an illegal letter stating that because none of them are licensed in MD and that PDL's are illegal in MD that they can't collect and need to mark the account paid in full and closed. I also sent along with quotes from the Maryland AG Office and including MD laws on PDL's and saying that I am reporting them to BBB, Maryland AG office and Maryland Financial Commission. (a template used from this site)
~I also will be sending the letters to all of the addresses for the PDL companies with USPS delivery/return receipt and signature confirmation ( I just have to come up with the money)
I'm a single mom of 5 great kids and honestly wanted to pay these folks back. I was a repeat loaner with them (probably due to the fact I needed one PDL to pay off another PDL and so on) and always paid on time plus their interest charges. I just can't do it anymore and I'm getting too far behind in other bills and don't even have enough to get the kids special things, just barely enough to get what they need.
Cash Transfer Centers:Re-loaned 5th time after positive balance. CTC requires you to pay the balance with interest in full at the next pay period following the loan approval.
Loan $600; Due $752; Paid $0
E-Payday-Loan: Re-loan 4th time after positive balance. They sent loan, in error, to a previous bank account that I had closed, even after I sent them the NEW bank information. They refused to reverse the loan they submitted to the other bank and still wanted me to pay the balance with interest for a loan I never got to use because the previous bank took the money and applied it to their balance owed after there was no dispute on the credit.
Loan $400; Due $520; Paid $0
VC Funding: Re-loan 3rd time after positive balance.
Loan $300; Due $390; Paid $90
Q-Loot (VIP Cash): Re-loan 2nd time after positive balance.
Loan $250; Due $315; Paid $130
The two loans that are from a few years ago, but want to collect
Ameriloan: Unsure, but they claim I owe $410, don’t remember what was paid on the account
United Cash Loans: Unsure, but they claim I owe $505, don’t remember what was paid on the account
Please help!! Is there anything else I can do? I truly did have every intention of paying them back but after reading the forums and several people saying in MD we are NOT obliged to pay them back, if we do decide that we pay principal only and that they can't harass us. I don't have the technology to record them and they aren't sending anything but form letters to my email address. What can I do???

Cash aTransfer Centers is known for sending wage assignment letters to employers. You must revoke all wage assignments you agreed to and give a copy of that leeter to your payroll dept. Then send cease communication letters to all of them.

Yep I did all of that and sent a letter saying not to contact me or friends or job anymore and that their loans are illegal in MD.
Nothing has worked and I am so embarrassed. I had to tell co-workers that if anyone calls them to forward it directly to my voicemail. I'm screening my calls and forbade my kids from answering any number they don't recognize. :(
It's like having to build a fort around my life and now I'm stuck on the inside and can't get away!!

Yes they are all internet payday loans. :?
The last two United Cash Loans and Ameriloans are so far back I don't even remember them but they sent me an email about how much I owe.
I also just got home and there is a letter in the mail from Grove law firm about Quik Payday loan and saying I owe a balance with them and to call the law office about setting up a payment plan.
I don't even remember EVER applying for a Quik Payday. Could they be connected to one of the internet loans?
Eulogy, Do not call the law office and set up a payment plan.
Eulogy, Do not call the law office and set up a payment plan. Do send the law office a request for validation of the debt...They are most likely connected to the internet loans...but make them prove you owe what they say and that the debt is in fact yours. Here is a link to one you can use as a template.

Be sure to send this certified return receipt.
Also, Guest is correct about Cash Transfer Centers. You do need to do a letter revoking any wage assignment you may have signed and make sure your payroll has a copy.

We always advocated to pay back the money borrowed, however, be sure to the rent, food, electric, etc. are paid first.
You need to write the pdls letters stating they are not licensed in your state in fact, they are not permissible by your state laws. You can also propose a payment plan at that time...do not give them your new account information...
The two you are not sure about..You only owed what you borrowed period. They need a letter too.
Last, I already advised you on the one you received a collection notice on...
Here is letter you can use as a template to modify and send to the pdls....

I agree with Roxy, you and the babies must have food, a roof over your heads, lights to do homework and water to wash clothes. I live in a state where payday leading is illegal. I would not give out any account information or send any western union or money grams. Turn them over them over to the MD AG office asap. I know a person who did this and MD is aggressive about getting money back for their consumers.

I live in Maryland and I'd urge you to call the MD Commissioner of Financial Regulation # listed above. They've been very helpful to me!

you have done everything right so far,now you must take action.roxy is right about paying what you borrowed, but you sent legal letters and these illegal companies are ignoring them.send AG,FTC,and BBB complaints.send them certified mail return receipt requested.

Awesome thanks so much everyone!! I will be certain to send the letters certified mail, it will be costly but I'm sure worth it in the end.
I will try to allot some time today to call the AG office. It's going to be difficult with no privacy (just wall to wall cubicles) which adds to the embarrassment  But since they're open at the same time I work, it has to be done.
Time for me to step it up a notch, I guess. I'm not sure what type of payment plan I can come up with since every penny is alloted for. I don't even qualify for services like food stamps, etc because their father and I supposedly "joint" custody.
Well if you determine providing all the medical/dental/vision insurance, school clothes, school activity money, housing, clothing and food, prescriptions and hospital care and having them 4 days a week (from Thursday-Monday) and all throughout the summer with no help from dad unless they're in his physical custody and then he takes them to McD's and feeds them Ramen Noodles as "joint", then I'm all for it :x . The only thing he does well is live in a decent county where the schools are better and our kids can attend school there.(Sorry about the rant, just venting :? )
But on the other hand once again THANK YOU all so very much for the additional info and I'll keep you updated on what they say or do.

Hopefully things will go well with you; as far as calling from a "cube," I know it, well! Are there any vacant offices or conference rooms that maybe you could use for your call, to make it a bit more private? To help you a bit, I can tell you that the Maryland Commissioners' office will want to know which companies you're dealing with, and they'll want copies of contracts, e-mails, or other communications from the PDLs. Are you getting the calls from the PDLs, yet? I don't know about the other PDL's you're dealing with, but United Cash Loans is a real pain in the rear. What I do is, I keep a log of any telephone calls I receive from PDL's during the week, I record the time, date, and what was said by both parties. If I receive e-mails, I keep a log of those, as well. Once a week I forward my calls/emails to the person I'm working with at the MD Commissioners' office (he/she will probably give you their own instructions as to what you should do).

Nope, a cell phone is out of the budget now. :(
But... my mother will be adding me on to a "family" plan on Friday which will reduce the cost of a regular bill by half. 8) Which is totally awesome!! :D
I am on the straight and narrow for getting myself out of debt, so I had to shut down my service before I ended up with a large bill I would never have been able to pay.
So Office phone it is.... I could possibly find an empty office and our conference rooms are usually full all week long, especially this time of year.
The log is a great idea. I've been keeping emails from all the companies I've sent to, E-payday-loan seems to be the one that keeps sending me form letters saying we can't access your checking account (Well duh!! Because I closed it so you wouldn't snatch my mortgage money!!) and we'll report you to Teletrack emails. I just started that though, so I missed a few emails from the other companies.
I have only a few contracts that I got from the companies before I was delinquent ( I knew I should have printed them out  ). Geez Louise!

What you might want to do is get a "prepaid cell phone" so you will not use up your minutes on the family plan. Use that prepaid phone only for the payday lenders.

Don't worry about having every single piece of paperwork, MD Commissioners' office will work their best with what you DO have. But from now on out, be sure to keep copies of all incoming e-mails, records of phone calls, etc., from the PDL's.
