Payday Loan Help

I received a harassing call today from someone that gave me a name and said for me to call a number. I called the number back that he called me from and he asked me how I got his number and I was not to call him he said he was going to block my number and I was to call the number he gave me. I called that number and it was suppose to be some type of collection agency. I posted dated a check about 8 years ago for $300.00 dollars and the gentleman said I owed a payday loan $1440.00 and they would make a settlement with me but I had to fax in something in writing today. I asked the name of the company and he couldn't give me a name. He said if I didn't reply today papers would be served on me right away. What can I do about this? I have The two numbers and the fax number that he gave me. Please Help!!! I am a 68 year old disable/retired person that has had a nervous breakdown in 08/96..

This is a typical scam. Debts are civil, not criminal. Nothing can be done to you. Ignore the call and report this to your state's attorney general and the federal trade commission.
