Shazzers - I have some general questions that I'm sure are answered in fragments throughout the site, but I need clarification please.
Is it true that Rhode Island prohibits ANY type of Internet pay day loans regardless of whether these companies are liscensed elsewhere?
If so, on what grounds can their bottom feeder collection agencies take action?
If illegal, I understand that only the principal needs to be paid. Is that just morally or legally? I.e. If I've paid back less than the original amount borrowed, am I legally liable or just ethically?
Thank you,
The Concerned in RI

Thanks Isabella - but do you agree based on RI law that Internet PDLs are illegal? Specifically the below states that payday loans are legal but to checkers only. I assume checkers refers to brick & mortar (storefront lenders).

Rhode Island Payday Loan Laws

State Legal Status
Lending of payday loan is considered legal in the State of Rhode Island. It is applicable for checkers only.
