This company has just recently contacted me about an online payday loan i supposedly took out with cmg group llc. They put money in my account in the amount of $250. My 2 roomates at the time were also on the account and must have spent the extra money. Any i have this detective jefferson telling that there were 2 counts of fraud charges against me with the oakland county sherriffs dept. and that i was also being sued for a monetary amount of 1497.00. He then proceded to say they woulld settle for 832.00 and asked if i could take care of it the day he called. I told him i couldnt that all i could afford was 100 dollars and would make payments on the rest. I gave him my credit card number and authorized a payment for 100.32. I was scared at that moment because it all sounded so convincing and cant have someone comming to my job to arrest me. So i gave him my credit card number and he said he would have to hang up with me because he couldnt process the payment with me on the phone. So he called me back with a confirmation number and gave me the other 2 dates the other 2 payments would be taken out. They already got $365 of my money on an original loan ammount of $250. My question is is all this true can they have someone come to my work or if they see me driving around stop and pull me over and arrest me? They are scheduled to take out another $365 on the 25th. Please someone help me figure out what to do.

Welcome! We are glad you are here. First, a few things jump out at me after reading your post:

You say you supposedly got the loan. Have they validated (proved) this loan was yours? You have the right to send them a formal request to have them do this.
Also, what state are you in--and does this outfit carry a business license? If they are not legally licensed in your state, there is not a blessed thing they can do against you--but you should still pay back the principal (what you got), IF this loan is yours.
Can they pull you over or come to your job to arrest you? Only if they have a valid warrant for arrest, and debt cases are civil, not criminal matters. This means that they can still take you to court, IF they are legal, but arrest you? No way.
Did they scare you? Sounds like they did. Can you fight back? You bet!

I dont remember approving any loan for $250. I live in michigan so im not sure if it is legal for them to loan to michigan residents. I have already paid this det. jefferson $465.32. and they are scheduled to take out another $365 on august 25th. What should i do should i stop my direct deposit and close my bank account?

If this loan was for $250 and it's not yours, but you've already paid them almost double the loan, then I would not pay them a penny more. Yes, stop your direct deposit and go to your bank TODAY to see if they can give you a new account number. I would also file a fraud claim against these people.

We would need to research this, which you can also do yourself. The way you can do this is by going to Michigan's state gvt. website and clicking on the department that handles business licenses. (In California, where I am from, it is the Dept of Corporations, but different states call it different things). If they do not come up in the database, then they are not licensed.
If they do come up, all they could do is pursue a civil judgement against you. But even so, you never took the loan they are going after you for, so I would still fight them. Don't let them say they are going to arrest you, because this is the oldest scare tactic in the book. File charges with your local police dept and the FTC.

I have done some research and thought i would put here what i found out to help others. So cmg group is not licensed to loan money to michigan residents and also criminal charges are prohibited which means they cant arrest me and take me to jail. cmg group is also not accredited by the BBB and has a rating of F.
