Has anyone dealt with Checksmart? I am trying to make payment arrangements and they wouldn't work with me. Said if I didn't make payment within 2 weeks, I would be sent to the next "more aggressive" level. The thing is, I was trying to make payments and the man wouldn't allow me unless I paid half and half.

Any suggestions/experiences?

Hi,

Checksmart is a collection agency trying to collect the debt from you. Before paying them a penny, ask them to validate the debt. You can send them a debt validation letter regarding the same. Unless they validate the debt, you shouldn't pay them anything irrespective of whatever scare tactics they use. If you find that they are unable to validate the debt, simply send them a 1 and ask them to stop contacting you. If they cannot validate the debt, it will actually mean that they don't own the debt account. In that situation, even if they file a lawsuit against you, it is you who will have an upper-hand!!

Take care

Once again we have someone that is giving BAD information. ChecksMart is a lender and therefore, a 1st party collector that is collecting thier own debt. As a rule, ChecksMart does not offer payments, as that would put the in a position where the excepton becomes the rule. They will collect for about 90 days and then send the file to a 3rd party CA.

Pretty sad that they cannot just work with me when I have been a customer for PDL, money orders, check cashing, etc for 5 years.

I am trying to make a payment but all of the collectors that call say I do not have enough money to pay....yet they will not stop calling.

Should I just send a payment to their corporate office? I am getting hit by at least five different phone numbers.

You can try to send the payment in, but they may return it to you. As I stated in my first post, they typically do not make payment arrangements for the purpose of consistency. If they make the exception, they must make it for everyone. If you wait until they send to a 3rd party CA, you will hten be able to make payment arrangements

Thank you for that information.

They said on the 2nd I go to their "2nd" level of collections where they will be much more aggressive. I wonder what that means.

Wondering if I should wait it out or just try to send a payment to corporate.

I wish I could just answer my phone but they are not trying to accept what I can offer at all. They could of had two payments by now!!
