I told one guy I needed time until tomorrow he told me if I don't pay by 1 PM central time tomorrow he is coming to my work with handcuffs what do i do I don't want to be thrown in jail

the OP is getting called at their work.do this OP.when the dogdirt calls just hang up without a word.as waffles put it debts are civil matters, and any call threatening arrest,or anything else is breaking the law.you are under no obligation to speak to the these losers.do that knowing that.

Listen.. NO ONE can throw you in jail for not paying a debt. Plain and simple. THE ONLY WAY YOU GET BE ARRESTED is if you FIRST get sued in court, lose, then get garnished and do not pay. That is it. As far as them calling your job, get a recorder, use it. Tell them on record you cannot receive calls at work. If they call you back again, each time can be fined $1500.

Listen, is your lender even licensed to do business in your state? If they're not, they're NOT coming to arrest you, trust me, as they would also have to tell it to the judge!
They are counting on scaring you enough so you will pay up.
The same thing also happened to me at work, with a lender who I knew for a fact was banned from doing business in my state! After I didn't stop laughing, they got the hint and hung up.

Ignore poster # 5. You cannot be thrown into jail for civil debts unless you went through the court process for garnishment of wages for a legal debt and still refused to pay. You would know if you were served as you would have received court papers that can be verified. Tribal and off shore lenders cannot win a garnishment in any state because they are illegal. The courts will through the case out. Any collector that threatens to throw you in jail right out of the gate is an illegal collector and you need to file a complaint with the FTC using the phone number you were given to contact them with and the name of the company and/or the person who called you. You should also file a police report for scam and fraud.

No state will honor a tribal court order for garnishment of wages because they are not valid outside of the reservation. Same thing for any wage assessment for off shore lenders. Western Sky is being sued by the FTC for attempting this using documents that mimic federal wage garnishments used for back taxes.
