I too am in NY and have many PDLs. I was reading the other NY thread and am so confused. I have many questions and need answers.
If the poster PDL Owner reads this please respond and tell me how to contact you .

sorry if I am confused . One thread says they are not legal and then PDL Owner sites a differing opinion. All I need him to do is clarify
If I am bothering you because I am confused I am sorry.
Like everyone else I am scared, not everyone got such a curt answer.

Kelly,

I know you are scared but try to take a deep breath. You can do this. I spent a lot of time reading these forums before taking action. THere is a link to look up your state laws. I was in so deep I never thought I would see the light of day and I am doing it. Someone will be along to help soon.

Hello Kelly I did not read the other thread but we are all here to help you. I know you are in NY but where are you in this process? Have you secured your bank account and followed through with your C&D letters? Once you have done this you can file complaints with your AG, FTC, BBB etc. I know how frightening this can be because I have been there. I came to this forum one year ago and today I am PDL free. I started this process with 15 or 16 loans most of which were from illegal internet payday loan lenders. You can do this you just need to initiate the process and follow through. Shazzers and Paulmergel helped me when I needed it and we will all be here to help you as well.

I'll "second" what other posters have said; you CAN work your way through this, believe it or not. Most, if not all, of us have been in the same situation you're in and worked out way out. Per what kfstaff24 said, let people here know where you're at, re your PDls, then they can tell you what to do next. They've been a great help to me and let me tell you, being PDL-free is a wonderful feeling! Good luck and please let us hear from you. If you have questions, ask.

First of all, look at the stickies at the beginning of this forum re. dealing with illegal PDLs and with closing your bank account, you'll get a lot of good advice. When you go into the bank, I'd recommend talking to the manager; odds are good they've heard stories similar to yours. Do NOT let the PDL's know beforehand you're closing your account or they'll try to get as much money as they can. Once the account is closed, hopefully you won't be opening any other accounts with PDL's; if you do, as many of these companies share information or are under the same 'main office,' it's likely they'll go after the funds in your new account. To get your new bank info they might even do something as transparent as sending you an e-mail saying you're such a good customer, they'll give you MORE money. But, of course you have to send your bank account number. After the account is closed, unfortunately you WILL get the telephone calls and e-mails from the PDL's' what I did was to keep a log of when they called, who called, and what was said. After a while if they keep giving you the same spiel about how they are too legal in NY (no, they're not!), you might just want to hang up on them. But please, don't think people here don't want to help you; sometimes there's a lot of conflicting information that has to be sorted through, but if you want to break free of the PDL cycle, "this is the place!!"

Hey kelly,

Sorry for the confusion, but that other thread went into many different directions. Basically, the IPDL's are not legal in NY. The question was how the DFI vs the AG will or have been handling the situation, not the legality. Your best bet is to follow the steps that are outlined on this site and your opportunity for success goes up tremendously. In your case, again, file the necessary complaints and hold your ground with the lenders.

Sorry for the confusion.

Kelly we are all here to help you, secure your account first and then take the next step of sending your C&D letters. This will work out, it has for all of us and you are even in a better situation than most with payday loans being illegal in NY. Good luck and if you need more help just ask.

i agree, sorry for any confusion. we are here to help. i was in the same boat as you and this board helped me out so much. securing your account is the first step. please let us know if your bank gives you any trouble or problems, that happens sometimes but we can help you with that.
than after it is secure and your loan defaulted, we have a template of letters to send out. we recommend reporting them to the FTC and attorney general's office as well as the BBB (the BBB will not really do anything but it is best to document as many places as possible).
i do not think anyone meant to be curt with you, i think it was a misunderstanding.
