I have to close my account the lady from the bank suggested to put the account on deposit only till the direct deposit is changed to the new account. And the close the old one after its done. How secure is this. Should i be worried or trust my bank (citibank). Any advise is great

I was able to put a freeze on my account, allowing only for deposits and a couple of pending transactions that had to clear. If anyone attempted to push a paper check through, the bank official who placed the freeze would be notified and subsequently I would be informed. A couple of my PDLs attempted to debit despite my ACH revocation of authorization and the transactions did not go through.

As long as your account is on deposit only, no debits of any type should go through. If any unauthorized debits do go through, you can dispute them and the bank will reverse the debit and most like investigate for any evidence of fradulent activity.

I don't get why you have to wait until your direct deposit changes to the new account. My bank advised me to change my (payroll) direct deposit asap.

The reason is my employer said it can take 2 pay periods to change the direct deposit which I think is BS, but thats what they said. So my bank said thats the best way to work with that issue, so our pay is not delayed. I just hope my bank is honest on the no withdraws allowed. It would be horrible if not.

Ask for a paper check.
