Response from GECC/Cash Direct Express
Date: Tue, 12/22/2009 - 07:23
Here is the e-mail I received via e-mail from Cash Direct Express/GECC. The 170 is much better than the collection letter I received demanding 890. In my e-mail to them I stated that I had been made aware they were not a legal lender in the state of Ohio (I was formerly a resident of Michigan and received and paid off a loan from them while living there) and requested that my account be removed from collections. I've read Ohio law and it disputes what they claim below, but I'm willing to take their offer and be done. It felt good to fight back!

We are in receipt of your letter received on December 7, 2009 (Customer Loan No. 6xxxx).

It appears that, despite full disclosure, you may have misunderstood the terms and conditions of the loan. For that reason, consistent with GECC’s policy to promote customer satisfaction, GECC is willing to accept a payment in the amount of $170.00 in full settlement of the amount due.
This payment must be received in our office no later than January 15, 2010 and should be in the form of a money order or cashier’s check to the address listed below. Upon receipt of the payment, we will mark the account paid in full.
I hope this addresses you concerns. If, however, you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Is 170.00 bucks the figure you came up with that you owed them?

I didn't include the amount in my letter, but yes that's exactly how much I believe I owe them. Thanks to all the resources and support here I felt confident enough to talk to them in the first place.

Just make sure you keep every piece of correspondence to and from them, in case you need it in the future. :)

Call me cynical but I would also ask for PIF letter so that they don't try and sell it to someone else to collect on.
