Lighthouse Recovery CA apparently has a collection account on me. I am not sure, but I think it may be from Huskhawk payday lenders. I sent them a debt validation letter over a month ago, sent it certified, return requested, and they did sign for it. However, they are still calling me! I have not answered the phone because I don't answer it if I don't recognize the number. They have left a message that I need to call them and also to use a reference #. Since they have obviously blatantly ignored my debt validation request letter, what do I do now?

Well, you know, if they are calling you without ever validating this debt they are in violation of the FDCPA, BUT, if they are associated with the Hushhawk payday loan company the next thing will happen is they will most likely tell you they are exempt from your law because they are located on tribal lands. Whatever. However, the good news is, if they decide to use that argument it means they won't pursue it any further in our courts because if they do, they more or less forfeit their tribal laws and must abide by ours. To make a long explanation short, get your phone number changed and tell them to go piss up a rope because there isn't much they can do to you since you have the signed green card showing they have a debt validation request, unless of course they want to set their self up for a huge fine for violating the FDCPA. File a complaint with the FTC and your AG, give them details of how this collection agency is in clear violation of the FDCPA by continuing collection efforts during the validation period.

Hey thanks, Shazzers. I will file complaints with the FTC and AG. I already filed them on Huskhawk, themselves, but was told they were located in "Nevis" and the AG and FTC couldn't get to them to do anything! I filed one on Huskhawk with the NC AG, too, but they couldn't find them, either. Anyway, I will proceed as you suggested. Thanks again!

Yeah, I know. There really isn't a thing the FTC and AG can do about it since they aren't even located in the states, BUT, on the flip side, there isn't anything they can do to you because you aren't located in their territory either. So all these threats and BS they are throwing around are scare tactics. They seem to enjoy making bogus threats.

One more thing, make sure you file complaints against this collection agency, it would be interesting to find out if they are even legit or located in the states. Could be they are just some employee of Hushhawk sitting in some basement somewhere telling people they are a bonifide collection agency, and the fact is, they aren't at all. However, if they truly are a collection agency they need to be called out by the FTC and your AG. The boneheads anyhow!! lol
