When I spoke with a woman from the Dept of Banking last week, she mentioned to me that on the state Treasury website they have a program listed called Better Choice.
Here is the scoop:
Unlike payday or cash advance loans, a Credit Union Better Choice Loan offers a longer, 90-day repayment term with lower fees and interest rates. In fact, you’ll never pay more than $25 for your application fee. And, you’ll pay only 18% APR—that’s considerably less than the 500% effective interest rates you may be paying on a payday loan. Plus, you’ll have the flexibility of making monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly loan payments.
If you want to know more, you can Google Better Choice PA Treasury and you'll find a link to it.

Hope that helps some people!

It does say this on the website: (Must qualify. Borrowers must meet credit union membership requirements and be over age 18 Note: contact partcipating credit unions for specific terms and loan amounts.)

patreasury.org/betterChoice.html will give you the info. You can click on Learn More and it takes you to the credit union website. It does have a listing of the participating CUs. Unfortunately, the ones in my area don't offer this...or at least they aren't on the list.

They do say they deposit an additional 10% into a savings account for the borrower to ensure a savings is started.

For some people this is worth looking into...there is no credit check!

i have heard of this.. i am pretty sure you would have to be a member but it is really easy to become one. at my credit union, they just require that you live, work, or go to church in a community (or are related to a member or work for a govt job..). that covers a lot of people. :)
i do not think this is available everywhere, which is sad as it is a good alternative.

Actually, I was just referring members to the Better Choice program as an alternative to PDLs in PA. Not sure where you got from my post that you are not liable for internet PDLs???
Of course, you are always obligated to pay back any principle you borrow from anyone. That is just having good morals.
