Wage garnishment can only be obtained with a court order. What this person is probably referring to is a 'wage assignment'. A wage assignment can be revoked at any time, so, all you need to do is send a letter stating you revoke any wage assignments you may have signed. Copy the letter and take it to your employer.
If you obtained a payday loan from the Internet or store, you need to send any Internet lenders an email revoking their right to any wage assignment, print the letter out and take it to your employer. If you obtained a loan from a store, send them the revocation via the mail, certified, return receipt requested, take a copy of that into your employer.
As far as the phone call, NEVER admit or deny owing a debt on the phone, if they are legit, they KNOW they are required by federal law (FDCPA) to send you a letter of collection via the mail within 5 days of their first initial contact with you. If you do not receive such a letter, tell them to go piss up a rope and don't talk to them again, hang up.

At this point you have done what is needed. the ball is in their court to provide you with validation of the debt. I would just send out a letter V&D and revoke any wage garnishment and get a copy to your HR dept. and be done with them till they provide you with validation. Dont be bullied by them. You can also file complaints against them with the BBB, FTC, Attorney General
