Ilegal PDL & Debt Collector

Help:
I hope that someone can provide some guidance. Several months ago I had a payday loan with Kenwood Services for $300. I ended up paying them $450. I sent them a letter stating that it was ilegal to practice in my state and that I was only responsible for the principle amount. I am now receiveing calls from someone called Paul Rubin from Goldstein Henderson & Weiss stating that they are issuing a summons and will serve the papers at my job. He has stated that I owe Kenwood Services over $1,000 and that I am being accused of fraud. He is "suggesting" that I pay an amount to settle this before it gets to court for an amount of over $600. Please let me know what I should do. I spoke to someone from this website and they told me I had to pay it because debt collectors are legal and they could take me to court even though they are representing an ilegal lender.:sad:

They can try to take you to court, but if you can prove they're
They can try to take you to court, but if you can prove they're an illegal lender then they won't get a judgment in their favor.
The people on this forum are nice, and know a lot about debt and collections, but if you want to be sure about what the law says you need to research it yourself or talk to a lawyer licensed in your state.
