i received a call from a law firm threatening prosecution for not paying a payday loan form 5 years ago. Well i havent used a payday loan svc since that time. I had a few of them and had some financial problems, and thought I paid them all back.
Since that time, I have moved twice and have no idea where the copies of the money orders would be or if i had it taken out of my new bank acct. I think I remember paying all of them back.
They say the judgment was made against me and they had been trying to contact me. well my email address and phone have been the same for over 10 years. I never received one call or letter. They wont send me a copy of the judgment and I cant find it in my county court records. I even checked jacksonville where the law firm is located.
Now they say they are garnishing my wages for the $200 i borrowed, plus fees for a total of over $2000 unless i pay $500 today. It was over the Internet. the company is called cashnow.com. I am in Florida. My email address is deleted...pm
Can this be done?
Sincerely,

this is most likely a scam as a law firm can't prosecute period.red flag number two.if there was a judgement it will show for 10yrs.the fact that there is no judgement showing is suspicious at best.red flag number three.they can't garnish without a court order, and besides FL is a non-garnishment state.use the number that comes up on your caller id to file a police report for the threat.then file AG complaints against this scam.one last point.if this was an internet loan it is non-enforcable.meaning it can't be collected on.this bottomfeeder broke several provisions of the FDCPA it's not funny.in short they can do nothing they threatened, and you should look into compiling evidence to sue them yourself.do not give this criminal collection agency a dime.mycashnow is illegal in every state.you owe them nothing.
Double check with the county court that they say it (the judgeme
Double check with the county court that they say it (the judgement) happened in. If they have nothing and the law firm has nothing to send you then tell them to sit on a corncob. If it was 5 years ago it may even be past the SOL and then they can't even take you to court. After you find out everything repost here and we can help out more.
