Dealing with collection agencies
Date: Fri, 06/11/2010 - 16:00
I have several IPDLs I am working to resolve, all are illegal in my state. I have written the letters and sent them to the companies, but some of them have gone to collection agencies. What's the best way to deal with them? I have already talked to one on the phone who said the letters were a "waste of time" of course and wants me to send a money gram, which I won't do until I get something in writing. Do I just keep ignoring the phone calls?

My suggestion is to send the collection agencies a letter saying you want to deal with the creditor and not them. The collection agencies should then send the accounts back to the creditors and you can work the situation out with the creditors. There are several templates in the DIY section that you can use.

If all of your IPDL's are illegal, and you are being called by collection agencies, then tell the collection agencies they are attempting to collect on illegal debts, if they continue to call you, file complaints against the with the FTC, BBB and your AG.
What are the names of these collection agencies?
