I am not here to question people's decisions, nor am I here to judge them, I simply provide information on how to get out of debt. We do not advocate NOT paying your debts, we advocate the law. Whether or not a person signed a contract with an illegal lender is completely irrelevant, the relevance is providing accurate information so these members can get out of the payday loan cycle.
Payday loan companies who charge illegal interest and fees that are not permitted by law create their own problems, if they would have followed the law to begin with, they wouldn't be facing so many defaults, and they WOULD be able to legally collect it.

To be honest, most of these companies are actually based offshore. So, the legal aspect kind of goes out the window. They are only regulated by the country they are in. I see you point about helping people get out of debt and I think that's great, however the first statement I see is "Close your account". If people want out of the "payday cycle"...STOP GETTING PAYDAY LOANS! This seems like a simple theory. Everyone knows the deal. It's on all of the websites and documents. Why does everyone agree to these terms, only to complain about them and look for ways out?

Sometimes people don't have a choice. If you're looking at a lot of bills in the upcoming month and you are living paycheck to paycheck and you're already trying to settle other debt, it seems like it's a harmless solution. I don't think people are "complaining" as you so callously put it, they are simply afraid and are seeking advice. Yes, it's a simple solution to just not borrow any more PDL, but where else are people supposed to get the money they need to make ends meet if they are already in the weeds? Some of us don't know about EPP or other options to help bail us out. We're all trying our best to survive out in the world and if you're frustrated with the situation, it would be nice if you were more like Shazzers and helped people with viable solutions instead of getting frustrated with them. Also, when I see the posts with "close the account" it's always in reference to those who are borrowing in states that don't allow for it.

I appreciate your honesty and I respect that. MY point was, you know the situation and then don't want to hold your end when it comes time to. Yes, pdl's are a great way to help people out of a pinch, but if you know they cost $30 per $100...don't do it if you can't afford it. And then to say it's "illegal" in some states...well that's like saying you get drugs from a drug dealer, get high and then when he wants his money, you say "no, drugs are illegal, I don't owe you money." Good luck to all. I wish you the best.

What happens is people get to a point where they're drowning. You borrow $200 thinking you'll be able to pay it back on your next payday but you're a little short so you get another pdl for $300 (so you can pay back the other one plus the interest). The next payday comes and you are a few dollars short so you get another one...
Eventually, you find yourself with several. Then you discover the rollover option, thinking this will help you be able to pay them off. It doesn't. When you get to the point where you've been paying off a $200 payday loan at $75 every two weeks for a year, you start looking for help, realizing you've paid nearly $2000 for a $200 loan and you're still being told you owe the $275 originally agreed on.
And that's what we're here for. To help. Period. Until you've been in it, you can't understand the humiliation, the stress, the hopelessness, etc.

Except, most people do not realize the legality of interest rates, and, if you will read more posts in this forum you will find that many (if not all) of these illegal lenders share, sell or give their customers personal account information (and SS#) to other illegal lenders (offshore) and otherwise. Therefore, the best solution to keep these criminals and other lenders (and only God knows who else) from dipping into customers accounts, is to totally close it. You wouldn't keep your account opened if you knew a criminal had access to it, would you?
I have NEVER advised ANYone to close their account and NOT pay their debt, quite the contrary, I provide them with advice on how to pay back their debt.
Like I said, I am not here to judge anyone, I never have and I never will.

A very smart move to close your account, if you get a new account do not give any of these lenders your new account information!

By the way, you only post a fraction of a post, I reply based on what the poster says, if they stated they understand what their obligation is under the law, there is no need for me to be redundant. I don't know what you are trying to accomplish here, but I am not going to be a part of it, there is no need for me to argue with an anonymous poster who is obviously trying to stir the pot. And frankly, your opinion is of no value to me, so, see ya!
i agree shazz so i'm locking this useless thread. paulmergel
