Just wanted to share my experience with closing my BOA checking account. I called this morning and after going through the ridiculous amount of automated prompts, I finally got a customer service rep. She was really unable to assist me due to my "special" circumstances, but she did put me through to a "specialist".

The specialist was extremely helpful in setting up the closure of my account and putting stop payment blocks on the two ACH debits that will occur within the five day "processing period" for account closure. She even waived the stop payment fee for the two debits. She couldn't guarantee, though, that if they were put through with a different amount that they would be stopped.

I'm not 100% certain that all will go well as planned, but am optimistic after speaking with the BOA rep that I'm on the right track.

I really just want to let others know that if you're open and honest with your bank, they will try to assist you - even Bank of America. I would also add that if you plan to close your account, do it ASAP - don't wait! I should have called on Monday to take care of this, but waited due to a legit debit coming out.
