payday loan help

I have about 1600 in payday loan debts from 4 different payday lenders. I just today stopped payment on them due to i am paying 400 paycheck in renewal fees alone and am not getting anywhere. I was wanderin - what do i do from here? Do I have to wait until the accounts are 60 days behind/deliquent before the companies will talk to me about settling my accounts? I dont mind putting the time and effort in getting this mess straightened out but I dont know what I need to do next or how I go about doing it.
