I doubt if it's really an attorney. It must be just one of their employees. If they call or email you, just tell them that they are required by the FDCPA t send you a letter of collection via the US Postal Service within 5 days of their first initial contact with you.

Moreover, payday loans are illegal in your state. So, it doesn't matter whether it's sold to an attorney or CA. It will always be illegal.

I dealt with him also, i think its a shady operation and im not sure if i beleive his scare tactics, but i settled with him to only pay the principal plus the 15.50 per hundred that is regulated by the state of illinois. He settled for $224. Don't act like your scared of them, they will eat you up if you do. If they want to file a judgement they have to come to pa and do it and i dont really think 554 is worth it for them. Tell them pay day loans are illegal in pa and you will pay nothing but the amount you borrowed. Also ask that he send a bill in the mail, i did and he sent it.

According to PA law, payday lending is prohibited.

This sounds like you obtained the loan online. Please note, the following would apply to you only if you obtained this loan as a cash advance online:

You are only liable for the principal balance of the loan.

ABC Loans - $350
SQG - $300

You've paid ABC Loans $210
You've paid SQG $450

You overpaid SQG by $150. You should demand a PIF letter from the lender and request a refund. With that refund I'd suggest paying down the principal remaining with ABC loans.

If the attorney contacts you again, ask him where he is licensed to practice law and request his bar number. You can pull up the bar association for any state online and search for a member by their number. If the "attorney" is unwilling to provide it, that's red flag # 1.

I would ask him for the licensed address and telephone number for his practice as well. If he is in fact a legally licensed collector he should have no problem providing this to you. If the "attorney" is unwilling to provide it, that's red flag # 2. If you do happen to get an address, verify it is valid through the USPS website and Google Maps.

If you are given a VALID address, research it. If you don't get anything more than results on 800notes.com or similar sites, be extremely cautious. It's possible they don't have a web presence, but it is just as likely (if not more so) that they are a fraudulent collector.

The biggest red flag is making legal threats against you. Debt is a civil matter, not a criminal one. Any collector that wants to keep operating isn't going to threaten their clients' non-paying customers with criminal charges unless they want to lose their license and be find up the arse by the FTC. Read up on the FDCPA and learn your rights.

You indicated that you have sent out the ACH revocation letters, but did you close the accounts in question? (Or if the accounts couldn't be closed just put them on deposit only?) There is a good chance that the collector you are speaking to is just a hired goon on the lender's payroll making idle threats to coax you into paying more than what you owe.

This a part of a payday loan scam. SSM group deposited $300 into my account somehow without my requesting it. And then began to deduct $90 every 2 weeks. I attempted to call several times and all I got was voicemail. I stopped the payments from my bank account. 3 weeks later I received this letter from Mr Sokol. I found out from reading alot on this company and they are overseas which negates them from US laws. The 90 they deducted was finance charges ONLY. How can a this lawyer be legal if the creditor is a scam? I field a police report so I have some leg to stand on.
