I don't have any payments until 9/15 but am in the process of sending letters and will be closing my account after my insurance payment clears on 9/4.

Has anyone had an issue with PDLs debiting early once they get the letters?

I didn't mention closing the account. I used the template letter revoking ACH and Wage Assignment. Crap I hope my car payment and insurance hurry up and clear. I might even just wait for the car payment to clear and then explain to Geico if theirs bounces. I'm sure they'll be understanding.

If you have already sent out the letters BEFORE you secured your account, that account is in danger of being wiped out. Go into your bank, and speak directly with the branch manager (no one else will do!), tell them you MUST have a hard debit block placed on your account immediately. Obtain the funds for your other payments and pay them with cash.

Shazzers is - as always! -correct. If you have money in the account now, make arrangements with your car and insurance people to send them a money order or a certified check from the bank for payment, at least just for this once. Tell them you have to close your checking account and open a new one in the meantime and you don't want your payment to be late (I wouldn't think you'd have to explain why you're closing your account as long as they know they're going to get their money). Then put a hard block on that account or, better yet, close it completely.
