check resolution

someone named john starks call and left messages about a check that was wrote we didnt call back he then call my mother-in-law house saying that my wife wrote a check to out back bucks back in feb 2010 and it did not go through my wife call them she said they had her ss# and told her the name of the bank we use unknown to me she gave them the number to the prepaid card that we have and made arrangements with them they took one payment out already she said that they said they would send her some paper work but it has been almost 2weeks when i tried to call and speak to mr starks he said that arrangements have been made if the money is not there for the next debit then he willl sue for breach of contract what can i do
