Mesa financial

I took out an online payday loan with Mesa in late 2009 (not 100% sure of the date). The loan was for $250. The interest that was paid was $60 every two weeks. I paid well over $700 (I believe it was closer to $1000 – but, I do not have all of my bank statements in front of me right now). I called one of the representatives at Mesa in March or April of 2010 and asked if we could come to an arrangement. They agreed to close the PDL account. A few months later, I was in a desperate financial situation. I borrowed $250 (with the interest only payment being $75). I paid the $75 once or twice (again, sorry for the lack of exactness). At that time, I contacted Mesa and revoked my ACH (as I didn’t have any money left in my bank account). I was unable to reach a rep, so I left a message asking to consider the loan paid in full due to my extreme overpayment of the previous loan. I believe online payday loans are illegal in Nebraska. Mesa never tried to withdrawal any more money and they never contacted me at all (they also had my current address – more on that in a second). I considered the matter closed since I never heard anything more (and in all, I way overpaid both loans by at LEAST $300).
I have since received several calls from a company claiming to be “ADRâ€. They have left a few somewhat threatening messages on my phone. They have also gotten a hold of numbers of family and friends that were never on the original loan application (and left THEM threatening messages). I called them back (probably a dumb move, I know). They said they had a file w/ my SSN (yada, yada), and that I was being pursued for intent to defraud, writing bad checks (even though I never actually wrote a check?) and something else. I denied that I owed any more. The address they had for me was SEVERAL years old (and I have since moved several times). The company’s name was called “consolidated†(in and of itself that sounds fishy). The calls came through as unknown numbers. I can’t be SURE they were all from them, but I have received no fewer than 10 calls per day. They tell me to call back 877-791-2102. When I called the number back, the man (with an American accent) was very argumentative/rude (not that I expected anything less). I said I did not owe any money and he said “good luck in court†and hung up. Their first message indicated they wanted my employer’s address (yeah right!) and my current address. Has this happened to anybody else? I don’t believe I have anything to worry about, but the nervous/panicky side of my brain is freaking out. If ANYTHING, I feel I would only owe the “difference†on the second loan ($250-$75 = $175 (or $100 if I actually paid two loan payments of $75) (since I’m moral obligated to pay back the principle, but I have done that plus some) That hardly seems worth taking someone to court (especially since mesa financial never contacted me themselves).
I know this was a long entry. Anbody have any thoughts?

I checked the NE licensee data base and they weren't listed as a licensed lender.
As far as this happening to others, oh heck yes, it happens much more than you would believe.
I am going to give you a link, read it because it kinda explains how these illegal lenders are working a scam, then I will return with more information for you, and how to proceed, I need to some some research first:

Well, Mesa Financial has several addresses listed at the BBB, one is in Kansas, but they don't have a license to lend in KS. Another is in N.M., and they do have a license to lend there, they are actually listed in N.M. as a small loan company and not a payday lender.
As far as "ADA", can you tell me what the actual name is?

Shazzers - thanks for all the info!!!
They wouldn't tell me their company name. When I inquired about it further, they just said the company name is "Consolidated". (he spelled it out for me, since because I have money problems, I'm automatically an idiot).

In regards to this 3rd party collector that is calling you, my best guess is Mesa Financial has obviously shared your personal information with other illegal lenders on the Internet, and it isn't hard to figure out that it obviously got into the wrong hands, because a legit collection company would not make the bogus threats that they made to you.
The next time they call you, this is what I would do, I would bluff them into believing that I am going to pay them, I would tell them that in order for me to do that I need their full name and address and a direct line where I can call them back, and explain that this information is needed so that I could go into my bank and provide it to my bank so they can make the withdrawal, for without it my bank would not authorize it, and just in case they ask me, I would tell them I don't have a debit card so the only way I can set this up with them is to first go into the bank with their information, I would keep stalling them until I got the information I needed, then I would tell them to go to hell.
This way, you can actually file a detailed complaint with your state attorney general's office , http://www.ago.ne.gov/consumer/emailforms/index.htm, then I would go directly to the FTC site and file a complaint https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, and last but not least I would fo to the Internet Crime Complaint Center and file a complaint, http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
That's what I would do.

I have received the same type of bizzarre and somewhat threatening phone calls out of the clear blue over the past couple of days too. They have also called my mom and sister in law who have no clue what to make of the calls. Stating that I have been formally notified and this is your final warning. I called and the guy that answered was rude when I asked what kind of company this was - they would not give out what ADR stands for. I will continue to ignore these folks until I can get some answers - very strange and aggravated that they are calling my family members when they have no idea nor were ever included as references into anything that I appy for.

TK - They haven't called me back since the last time I talked to the guy (and when he told me "good luck in court". At that point, I told them I didn't owe any money and wasn't going to pay. (If they call again, I am totally ready to follow Shazzer's advice above).
I'm pretty sure they're doing "family searches" or something. My father wasn't on anything of mine either (he has since remarried and moved out of state). They tracked him down on his new wife's home phone. These people must be really bored at their job :)

If you stick around long enough you'll see just what "bored" individuals (not to mention idiots) they really are. Occasionally they will post on this forum with the same old crap posts that basically say "PAY YOUR BILLS". A payday lender employee is pretty easy to spot, they use improper grammar and have very poor spelling. lol

Cari,
I want to call them back - but what a waste of time and a period of aggravation that I truly don't feel like enduring with these people. How long has ot been since they last called you since you called them back? I figure seeing that they now told me today that it was final warning that seeing that they have gotten a response from me that the calls may start to go away. Plus - I answer no call if I don't recognize the number.
I figure maybe someday - they will send me something in the mail - who knows!!! I am a single dad and doing the best one can in today's economy.
Agree - they must have really boring jobs to call 5 or 6 times per day - they need to get lives! I told my relatives not to give out any information on me to anyone that calls and leaves that type of message.
:-)
