Someone by the name of "David Johnson" called my job last night and has been calling my home, saying that they are from a law firm and I will be dragged to court. And that my FICO score will drop 65 points.

The number they left is 619-704-9653.

I do have payday loans, but none are outstanding, so I am confused, how do I get these calls to stop?

use the number to file police reports as a search turns up nothing but more posts like yours.as for the calls at work.just hang up without a word.inform others that this is a scam, and they should hang up on him as well.he is a scammer and should be treated as such.

Hi
do a google search -"payday loan collection scam". These scum bags have been trying to pull this off on me for several months. They will stop for a few weeks, then start calling again. The best thing to do is not answer at all. If you answer, they consider that a "bite" and they will harrass you endlessly. They call from different numbers, they have heavy foreign accents and they always say the same thing on their messages "the very second you get this message...blah blah". Don't give them a penny; they probably have your ss# & checking account from where you applied for a payday loan somewhere else. Don't acknowledge anything they say and don't give them permission to withdraw a penny from your bank account.
They're disgusting!

I think that they can't withdraw funds from your account unless you have given them permission. That is why they are pushing so hard to get you to say that they can withdraw from your account. But, it probably wouldn't hurt to close the account anyway.
And I'm in this mess too so don't feel too bad!

I worked for this company. It is owned by Shawn Bure. It's one of several. They are pretending to be process servers and a mediation firm. Chances are the name you got is an alias or as they call it and "avatar". They only collect on payday loans. I am currently trying to report them to the FTC.

They definately should be reported to the FTC along with all of the other places mentioned in this thread. I have to admit them saying that someone's FICO score will drop 65 points is a tactic that I have not heard yet. Guess they think that people are actually stupid enough to believe that drivel....
The best defense? HANG UP ON THEM!!
