I was told I have a pay day loan and don't
Date: Tue, 04/09/2013 - 13:00
I received a call today stating that I have a pay day loan that is in default. They have my social security #, and old email but that is it. They threaten me with jail time. Said they were going to serve me papers for court. I do not have a loan and therefore have no proof of this. I asked what bank was this supposedly depoited into and they could not give me that information. I am now scared. I have agreed to pay them back even though I do not have one out because I do not want to go to jail.
SCAM
Visit the FTC website - this is a scam going around. The payday loan companies sell your contact information over and over again.....another way they make money off of you. They try to bully people into believing they are in default on a loan they never got. DO NOT pay these people. Report them to the FTC immediately and block them from your phone if you can or don't answer the phone -- after a couple of weeks of not getting you on the phone they will move on to someone else. I can always tell every time my information is sold because I get a new round of calls (all from middle eastern sounding people) spouting off the same script. They also send text messages as well. They are a pain to deal with but ignore them and they will eventually go away....until your info is sold again.
Don't be scared - just a scam
Don't be scared - just a scam -- debt is civil not criminal. You can not go to jail... Just tell them when they call again to send you proof via the mail or get lost.. and them block their number from calling you.. the main thing is to stay off the phone - you can report them to the FTC.. and your state AG office..
