These guys are killing me. I can't get a total $ owed, and even though i asked them not to, they are calling me at work. I know the rules on that, but I need to know if there is anyway I can revoke the authorization I gave for them to access my checking account.

Big is a highly illegal company. They are located in the UK and hold no licenses to lend anywhere in this country. The only way to stop them is to close your checking account and open a new account at another bank. If you tell them to stop deducting they will just go in and take everything.
How much did you borrow and how much have you already repaid.

I Borrowed $500.00 and have probably paid $350.00 of it back, but since I am having problems, I have missed some payments and they tell me that I owe other charges, but no bottom line amount.

Bottom line amount is that you are only morally responsible to pay back the 500.00 that you borrowed. Please take care of your checking account or this could end up costing you thousands. There is a sticky at the top of the pay day loan page to read before you close your account. I would reccommend doing it asap.

I believe Big is the same outfit as GFS, Global Financial Services out of the UK. Their emails are identical and phone operators although the numbers are different. I also have a PDL with them and recently closed my checking account so I'm sure I will be hearing from them soon. I have outstanding PDL's and Check Advances I'm trying to resolve and need help. How do I obtain a "cease and desist" letter and should I call a certain number for free consultation to give specifics? I'm brand new to this site and would appreciate any help you can give me. I had no idea a site like this existed and there are so many people in the same boat.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Cindy
How do I obtain a "cease and desist" letter...
There is a template for a C+D letter in the Do-It-Yourself section of this site. You might also hunt up posts by our members JCEMT or Cajunbulldog. They have letters linked into their signatures that might be of interest to you.
....and should I call a certain number for free consultation to give specifics?
You'll notice a blue tab with a phone on it, on the right side of this page. That should hook you up to the counseling folks associated with this site. Or use the online option that you see whenever you log in, and they'll call you. Neither of these options is mandatory, but they're there if you want them. Or you could opt for the DIY route. Many people have had good results going that way.

Hey... It's what we do here.

Offshores are the bottom-feeders of the PDL world--and knowing what I now know about PDL's that's saying a whole lot! Close your checking account ASAP and since you've already paid back $350 of the $500 you've borrowed, tell them you'll work on paying them back $150 and not a cent more. They can get it by money order and that's final. So it's their choice--they can get their principal paid back and not a dime more or you will move on. There is not a blessed thing they can do about it.

I sent them a letter revoking access to my account, I told them that any attempt to access after the date of the letter would constitute fraud. But now they are calling me telling me that they have no way of receiving payments except through ach and wanting to set up a deduction schedule. I don't trust them , of course, and I told them that I would close this account if needed to keep them out of it.
Do any of you have nay experience in paying with money orders?

Big is one of the most illegal companies out there. They will go in and take everything. You need to tell your bank TODAY to put a hard block on ach debits. They wont wait, they will debit right away. And of course they will pay no attention to your letter.before you actually close your account , please read the sticky on top of the pay day forum to be certain you can close it without causing yourself more problems.

As I feared, BIG ignored my message and debited my account again. I went to the Bank and they have placed a 'no debit' on the account and (since it is in negative ) will create a new account once I have a credit balance. I held off doing this because i didn't want to close the account if at all possible, but at least now I will know where my money is.
Also, in going over my account, we found that I had already paid the total borrowed plus $100.00 more. I don't feel guilty at all about not paying them anymore money.

Thank you all so much for your help. I don't know what I would have done without the help given here.

I emailed to the following addresses:

payments(at)big-int.com,
collections(at)big-int.com,
customerservice(at)big-int.com,

SUBJECT: CEASE AND DESIST: YOU ARE OPERATING ILLEGALLY

To Whom It May Concern:

I will NOT be making any future payments to your company. I have paid my account sufficiently according to the Laws of MY STATE regarding Payday Loans. You have already violated the law and should you attempt to collect further on this account, I will report you to the MY STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL. Please DO NOT contact me via telephone again. Your customer service line is extremely unprofessional and rude and impossible to understand based on the amount of background noise and the language barrier between your US customers and your representatives. I have retained an attorney and am providing you with the MY STATE LEGAL STATUS as it relates to this $200 loan. Based on CODE #, listed below, I have satisfied my obligations to you. Should you make any future attempts to collect from me or contact me by telephone, I will report you to the proper authorities.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and your cooperation,

CITATION/CODE LISTED HERE

I'm so sorry this happened, have you tried filling out a despute with the bank for the unauthorized debit? I did that with my bank before I closed my account, it took a few days but they finally reversed that debit and put in back into my account. Not sure what bank you do business with, but I went into the bank and spoke directly to the branch Manager, I explained the situation, filled out the forms, and the amount disputed was credited back into my account.

Thank you, I will talk with them. The bank has been most helpful and even suggested some things I didn't think of.

If you put a hard block on your account, does that stop you from using your ATM/Check Card? Just curious.

I have had a hard debit block on my account. When you have a hard debit block, NOTHING goes through. No written checks, no electronic checks, no ATM cards. Nothing. The only thing your account will "do" is deposits. You would have to get another bank account somewhere else to have a "working" bank account.

No problem, you guys! And, kash, you were right! That's why it's always good to open another bank account somewhere. That way you'll be able to still conduct "bank business" since your other account won't allow anything except deposits.

What you should know is that they are the most illegal comoany around. Thye are not licensed anywhere ad are located in England. If yur account is still open, you should close it asap. You are nkly morally to repay the principle amopint borrowed. If your leave your account open, these people will bleed you dry.

roshell. . .can't you cancel the loan within a two day window as per your contract? If you can, I would suggest you do so it at all possible. I know it's hard when you are in a bind but trust me, dealing with the fall out of whatever the money is for is far less than dealing with these monsters.

llw, there usually is a statement on the loan documents that gives you like 3 days to return the loan if you change your mind. However, BIG doesn't really operate like the others. They are just horrible. Since they break every law in every state/country, I just don't see them cancelling the loan. After seeing how many people this company has debited into the THOUSANDS of dollars for a 200.00 loan, I just don't see them doing ANYTHING on the "up and up".

Oh I CANNOT begin to tell you how funny this company is. They call me endlessly every day at work and home, so you know what I do. I call the 1-877 number, back to back to back and harass them. I told them that they will not get a dime. To either send me papers showing what I owed so that I can pay them in a money order, or take me to court/arbitration. Which they wont. 5mos ago I borrowed $200, and after they botched my acct # and never deducted money, I came to this wonderful site to read up on them, and decide to not even correct it, and requested address to send a money order, when they refused that was the key for me. 2 days ago I sent an email report about them to DATELINE NBC, begging for investigative help. So anyway from $200, they are saying my bal is "about" $1100. never have given me an exact dollar amt. So I promised them I will make their life hell, and call them just as much as they call me. I've even recorded convos, and informed them that I was doing so, and in FL that is legal as long as you let the other party know. They are so dumb and they will sit there and take the verbal abuse b/c they think that they will eventually talk you down to paying. I even asked one guy, if they have ever look up themselves on the internet to read about their "company" and he hung up on me, so I call him riiiiight back. Each time I call I speak to someone with such an American name, but yet such a foreign voice.
The names I have been given are (and you will laugh):
-Sean Carter
-Ron (and I said let me guess your last name is Johnson, and he actually say "yes ma'am that's right)
-Chris Nathan (then when asked a few mins later he said Nathan Chris)
-Jack Hernandez
-Stewart Fleming
-Audrey Miller
-AK...which is Antonio Kahn (which I mocked him and said ok so that's Mr. Kahn"man")
Oh and the list goes on.
Oh and before Mr. Sean Carter tried to transfer me b/c I was being so difficult I heard him whispering to his buddy that he told me he was Sean Carter, to prep the other guy.
PLEASE DO NOT GIVE INTO THEM WHATEVER YOU DO.
There has to be something done to them. I called my payroll dpt to question them about the legalities of wage garnishments and they say that if someone/a company calls all they can do is give them the employer's address so they can mail legal documents, (and you know B.I.G won't.) So it's a process....Don't believe them, and to all you single mothers who are caught up, you cannot have your wages garnished for a PDL company, then only ppl who can do that is the IRS for tax reasons, or in some extreme court case. SO PEOPLE PLEASE WHAT EVER YOU DO FIGHT WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT, THEY ARE STRONG AND RELENTLESS, BUT YOU BE EVEN STRONGER! I'M SURE WHERE THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON YOUR FEW HUNDRED i'M SURE THEY HAVE GOTTEN THOUSAND IF NOT MILLIONS FROM OTHERS BEFORE US.
