I live in TX and I took out a paydy loan online with a company called Quick Cash. I defaulted on the loan which was for $300 and was contacted by a California company with Houston callback number. They first told me they were a "local sheriff" then told me they were a law firm. They said they would contact my employer and arrest me at my job. They said they would file charges electronically and that my due amount was $4300 but they would accept $800 if I paid today or $500 this week and $500 next week. I asked for the name of the office this person worked for but they wouldn't give it to me. The people calling have HEAVY accents but American names such as James Cooper. The man put me on hold and told me to stay on the line but he hung up on me. Can I be arrested for default on this loan?

When I asked for the law firm name they would not give me the information, placed me on hold then hung up on me. My question is can I be arrested for this?

Hmmmm, do you happen to have the contract they sent you when you applied for the loan? Meanwhile, I am going to do some checking around. Do you think the lender that I posted above is the same one where you obtained the loan? They may not even be the correct lender. I will return after I research Quick Cash a little further.

I've done a little investigating and came to the conclusion this company is ILLEGAL, the reason I say that is because no legit company would make such threats to you, and they need to be reported to your attorney general's office asap! Honestly, you should go HERE and file a detailed complaint about what happened! Make sure you mention the threats, the phone calls, and the number from where they called. Also, if you search your email inbox maybe you'll get lucky and locate the original email you received that approved your loan, or SOMEthing from them that you could use in your complaint.

Next, you need to go to the bank and CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT! After you close that account, let's try to locate their contact information. I may be able to help you with that, I will post the possible addresses and phone numbers I can find for Quick Cash, and perhaps it will ring a bell. There are lot's of payday lenders who call themselves quick cash so it's hard to tell which your lender, for sure. You deserve a GREAT BIG FAT refund, and your attorney general could very well help you accomplish that! FIRST, close your account so this lender has NO access to your personal account information, this is VERY important, and in your best interest!

I had closed the account they had listed for me several months ago due to fraud on the account and opened another account online. Previously I had made my bi-weekly payments as scheduled. I can't find any paperwork on the loan but when I was searching around online I did see a Quick Cash that looked familiar.

I found a web site that looked familiar: I'm pretty sure the company you found is the right one. The number the people supposedly from California wanted me to call back was a Houston number and that is near Conroe. When I file the complaint should I file agains Quick Cash since the supposed attorneys office would not give me their names?

I had to delete the links, they are definitely ILLEGAL. DO file complaints, all you should have paid them was the original amount you borrowed, less any payments, fees and interest. I wouldn't speak to them again on the phone after you tell them you are contacting your Attorney General's office and file a detailed complaint against them, they are nothing more than criminals.

Honestly, I don't think they are one and the same, if they are, they are in BIG trouble for making these threats, and they need to be shut down, please file a complaint with as much information as you have, you should even include the website in your complaint.

I called the FTC to file a complaint. They said that there was a breach someplace and that this could very well be a scam. I looked online and there are now a lot of people refering to this "attorneys office" as a scam saying they were told they owed a place clled Cash Net. Anybody have info on this?

There are several Cashnet, operations who extend payday loans, and are illegal. Now, Cashnetusa, on the other hand, is supposedly either licensed to lend in most states, or registered as CSO's (Credit Service Organizations), however, they have been faltering recently and not renewing their license, nor are they keeping their registration up to date at the secretary of states website. I have been reading multiple threads about cashnetusa becoming aggressive (in an illegal way) toward people who default on their loans. It might be a good idea to find out for sure which payday lender your attorney general's office was referring to, as Cashnet and Cashnetusa are two different entities.

Very probable. Although, many pdl's go by dba names, another possibility is they sold your information to another illegal payday lender. If they aren't licensed, they aren't legal, and if they aren't legal, they can't sue you.
