I've found alot of helpful information on this site but can anyone shed some light on the laws regarding Internet loans in the state of Virginia? I currently have 4 Internet pdls out, 3 of which are being reasonable in working out payment arrangements with the exception of Zip19/Ecare solutions. I have drafted revokation of wage assignment letters but how do I stop the harassing phone calls and threats to send letters to my employer?

You can review your payday loans at the link below:

In Va., payday lenders are not legal, either because of restrictive laws, or because the state does not license companies not located in that state, but requires a state issued license to lend. CLICK HERE to find out how to deal with illegal lenders.

I wish there were some advice I could give you that would guarantee the lenders won't call and harass you but I am afraid there just isn't. Internet payday lenders know full well what they are doing when they provide loans for the states that require them a license to lend, they just hope you don't. That's why they charge such outrageous interest rates and fees, because most of them are located overseas with a po box in the states, because they pretty much know they are untouchable by our laws, but they will stop at nothing to continue loaning money to unsuspecting, desperate customers who are oblivious to the laws. They are nothing more than criminals, this is why it is so important to follow through on complaints against them with the BBB, FTC and you AG. The more we get the word out, the better the chances of these companies going down.

The more complaints they receive, the more likely something will come of it. I continued to send the same email repeatedly to the lenders who sent me threatening emails. Finally, I received a cease and desist email which demanded I stop emailing them. I haven't heard from them since. I did reply one more time, I just said, "very well, but, FYI I am keeping a copy of this email."
