WA. State Payday Loan Help-Threatened at Work Today :(
Date: Wed, 06/17/2009 - 23:49
Using the advice from this forum, I closed my bank account, and sent the letter revoking debiting authorization to the companies.
Today, some 4 months after I did that, I received a call at WORK (I work in a grocery store bakery). The gentleman was without a doubt from India. He said he was calling from something like, "Federal Bureau of Financial Law", or something like that.
He told me I committed check fraud, that my social security number was blocked by the U.S. government (whatever that means), and that he would explain more once I took down my case number.
He went on to say I was being sued by KSM Marketing! SUED!!! By a company I never had a loan with!!! I'm thinking, "OK, if I truly committed check fraud, wouldn't someone arrest me?" It all did not add up to me.
I got REALLY ANGRY, though, when he brought up my REFERENCE people. He said they were responsible for this, too!!!!
I was scared, but the fear turned into anger when he brought up my references. I said, "Well, you need to get your stuff straight, because I never even had a loan with those people."
He explained, "Ma'am, sometime loan companies go by different names." I said, "That's totally not my problem. I had loans, paid the principal on all of them, found out they were illegal, so I'm done with them. I never want you to call me ever again, do you understand me? NEVER AGAIN!" Then, I hung up.
Yes, these were some of the greatest mistakes I've ever made, getting payday loans. I HAVE learned my lesson. But this was too much. Accusing me of being a criminal?!?!
It bothers me, because I thought if the principal was paid, I was OK. Now, I'm afraid this guy is going to sue me for interest on a $200 loan....it will probably be triple that.
I live in Washington state. Is there anyone out there that can help me or give me advice? Please help....God bless you.

Since they are illegal lenders and you have already paid off the principle amount borrowed, you have nothing to worry about. This is because these people only threaten to sue you so that you pay then the amount they ask for. If they call you back again, just file a complaint against them with the FTC by calling them at their toll free number 1-877-382-4357.

They are handing you a crock of dog doo....have fun with their calls. Give them the phone number of your local police department to call you back at!

Thanks so much, guys. That makes me feel soooo much better. I think I may call the FTC anyway. Thank you so much for the phone number. Have a wonderful day.

Wow, I listened to the thirteen voicemail messages on my phone this morning. Several are from this guy that called me at work. I'm stunned at what they think they can get away with. This guy, the guy from India, said his name is "Mark Williams" from the "The Department of Law and Investigation". WTFever! In one message, he said he can't discuss anything in a voicemail message. In the next message, though, he said, "If you don't call me back, there will be legal consequences! You are in big, legal trouble! Call me back!!!" I'm glad I've saved these messages, so when I build a case against these people, I'll have these illegal threats to show as evidence!

I am receiving these SAME calls. I am really really scared. He is threatening my references and swearing at me. I have asked him NOT to call my work number anymore and he still proceeds to do so. I paid my principal balances with these loan companies and do not owe them anymore. He told me the next step was sending his officers and investigators out to my place of work. I do not want this to happen. I don't know what to do at this point. I filed a complaint with the FTC as well as my state attorney general.
Can you let me know what ended up happening with yours? Did he stop calling? I live in California. Also, does anyone have the name and/or number for legal representation against these people. The FTC said I could sue them for violation of the Fair 1. Thank you so much anyone for your time and for reading this.

They CAN'T arrest you and I can guarantee you that no one is going to show up at your place of employment. Click the link below if you are serious about pursuing legal representation.

I just checked out that link you posted and filled out a free evaluation. This so called Officer Mark Williams has violated so many of the terms of the Fair Debt Collection Act. I am interested to see what an attorney says.
