I have several payday loans and want to know if they're legal in the state I live in (Maryland).

All payday loans are illegal in Maryland. Follow the link in my signature line for information on how to deal with them. You owe principal only...no fees, no interest.

AND REGISTER WITH THE FORUMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
I registered for the forums and wanted to get more information on my situation. I currently have 6 loans. 4 are payday loans and 2 are lines of credit. Here's the information:
1. QXL Online-loan $250, finance fee $95, as of 4/30 I will have paid $190 so I owe $60 towards the principal.
2. Action Payday-loan $600, finance fee $90, as of 4/30 I will have paid $635, which is $35 over the principal.
3. Castle Payday-loan $1200, finance fee $300, as of 4/30 I will have paid $1900 which is $700 over the principal.
4. One Click Cash-loan $600, finance fee $180, as of 4/30 I will have paid $360 so I owe $240 towards the principal.
Here's the information on the line of credit accounts. As these are different to payday loans I don't know if they're legal in Maryland.
1. CashNetUSA. I owe $928.69. Not sure how much I've paid since I have requested additional money after making a payment.
2. American Creditline. I owe $843.78. Not sure how much I've paid, but I recently requested an increase.

I'm hoping you can give me some advice.

CashNetUsa is a legal lender. You will have to default on your loan and then ask for an extended payment plan. You might also want to contact the Maryland Commission of Financial Regulation, 500 North Calvert Stret, Room 402, Balto, MD. 21202, 410-230-6100, finreg@dllr.state.md.us. They along with this site will help you get out of the payday loan trap. Good luck!

Sorry for multiple posts.
I contacted the office you suggested and they asked me to file a complaint and include copies of loan agreements. Unfortunately I only have one (One Click Cash) since Action Payday locked me out of their website, Castle Payday says I have to call them for information and QXL online locked me out and then went ahead a deducted $250 from my bank account.
Went to bank yesterday to talk to branch manager. Opened new account, but can't close this old one until the QXL transaction posts. Then I have to call to dispute it and hope my bank refunds it.

You might want to also get copies of your bank statements. This will show the amounts that they have taken from you. I had to do this for mine.

Hope the calls have ended after 3 years. I just want to pay the principal and be done. Need to get my life...and money situation....back. I better print up statements before my account closes.

Oh yeah, the calls have stopped. Once in awhile, I still get calls from CA's demanding money for the loans but I simply ignore. If you continually get calls from the illegal lenders and/or CA's report them to the FTC. Yes, print your statements before your account is no longer available. I can tell you that you can go into the bank with old account number and get your statements.

Calls haven't started yet, but next payment isn't due until the 15th. I'd rather they contact me instead of my work. Account will be closed on 5/8, so I will get my statements printed.

There is no point reporting a CA to the FTC PRIOR to sending them a written cease and desist letter. Prior to notifiying them that you do not want any communication, they would not have committed any violations.

Eventually, it will end. Takes time. In my case, after about a year or so, the calls did stop. Every once in a blue moon, I get a call from a so called collector but I just ignore.

The MD Commisison brought a case against Eastside Lenders who I had and won a cease and desist against them. They are no longer able to lend to MD residents. Also received restitution from them. Once I told the Commission about all my lenders, they immediately advised them that loans to MD residents were illegal. All of my lenders I have overpaid. Received refunds from 4 of them including Eastside. I doubt I will see any from the rest.

Good for you. I wish I had found this forum sooner. This is actually my second time dealing with PDL. I got in some trouble before and borrowed money to pay them off. Now I'm back in the same place. Fortunately I found out they're illegal, since I've spent so much on this already, and I can hopefully end this vicious cycle. Getting my complaint in to the MD Commission ASAP.

Did you tell the Commission about your previous loan or did you just tell them about the current one? If not, about the previous, I would also give them that information as well. Believe me, they are go-getters to stop the payday lenders.
Good luck!

I only included information about these loans, not the previous ones I paid off. When I hear back from them I will let them know that I had loans before and paid them off. I am so embarrassed about how much money I have wasted on this. I just want it to end!!!!

It's hard to do that when you're receiving calls from bottomfeeder collection agencies who don't leave any name on their voicemails or represent that they're calling from my county's clerk's office.
