Loan was for $400
Have paid $2000+
By the sound of things, I
By the sound of things, I believe they are illegal. You need to check your state department of financial regulation to determine if they are legally licensed. If not, then on this site click on forums, then click on payday loan help, then click on sticky on how to deal with illegal lenders. Follow every step, do not skip. Anyone have any advice for me
Anyone have any advice for me on how to find out if this is legal or not & what to do??
I looked at the laws
I looked at the laws pertaining to La & it list 3-4 payday loans that I guess are most common? But it also said that in La they do not have to have a license if they do not have a physical location in the state (United credit is based out if Fla, I think) and that if they do not have a physical location in the state then they do not have to follow state laws.
I don't know if this is the right loan company- I remember when I took the loan out the name was American *something*.... Can't remover as it has been a year & a half & the name that shows up in my checking acct was United Credit. So I don't know if they are the same or not? All I have is the number that they call from, I have not answered these calls for that last month. It is always a foreign, hard to understand accent on the phone, even when I have called their customer service in the past. So I'm not sure how to find out if they are legal or not.
The number is 877-491-5477 and 877-741-1969.
