I have 7 payday loans, totalling around $2,000 with the fees, and I live in Wisconsin, I stopped paying and have not heard from anyone, but over the weekend my landlord said she got a message from a lawyer telling him to contact her about me, what is this all about??

Well it is unsure to determine if this is about your PDLs. If you listed you lanlord as a refernce on one of the applications, they could be tryig to scare you into paying. It is against FDCPA regulations to disclose debt information to any else but yourself.

They may be trying to find out if you still live at the same residence. It is unsure to tell :?

Is it typical they wouldn't contact me and go thru a lawyer, does this mean they are going to sue me, and mylandlord was NOT a reference, but I believe they looked up the address and found her name that she owned the house I am living in. Why wouldn't they contact me and why her? I just cant figure out why a lawyer is contacting her about me?

Are internet pay day loans legal in WI some of the ones I have used are 500 fast cash, united, payday.com....And can they add more fees unto what is all ready there, for example, one loan was for 200 but with the fees it is now 350, can it go up even more?

I suggest you tell your landlord to ignore the calls. This is a sensative situation, because you really do not know what it pertains too. If you want to find out the next time they call your landlord, have him/her direct them to you.

What are the names of the PDL companies you defaulted with? Like I said if they are Illegal companies they are just blowing hot air to get your attention.

Actually WI has the worst PDL laws :? WI law only requires the PDL company to be licensed in their home state to be Legal.

That is why I asked for the names of the companies.

500 fastcash and ezpayday are Illegal.

Is United the full name?

PaydayOne is Legal and licensed. You stated you have seven loans. Are the other storefronts?

I am unsure about these. Looks like you took these names from your bank statement. Do you remember if these two go by any other name. Meaning the processor name on your statement and actual PDL name may differ.

You can send these two emails, letters requesting their licensing number and state. If they are unlicensed the they are also owed the principal only.

You need to definately secure your bank account with these companies ASAP! Read HERE for more info on dealing with Illegal lenders.

WHen you say the principal only, I understand that, so the legal ones can just keep adding and adding charges? If they get a lawyer, then what? I just am sick about this information...I really screwed up! :-(

No, this means that the Legal ones you listed can offer a payoff plan to include the finance charge of the loan. This will stop the rollover fees altogether and break up the loan and finance charge into four equal payment.

First thing you need to do is call the companies and ask for a repayment plan. Paydayone has been pretty reasonable to other guests in the past. Also CashnetUsa can offer you a paymet plan as well.

You stated above you stopped paying them, so does this mean you closed your bank account already?

No, but I arranged it w/bank so they cant try to debit, the 3 ones you said were illegal, just kept trying and was getting so many fees (overdraft)
And I just havent made any kind of payments at all, and havent heard from any of them, was thinking I would hear something, but then the landlord told me about a call from a lawyer and now I am panicking...and I truly didnt understand the whole process or what I was getting myself into...you have helped educate me a lot....do you think it is strange that I have not heard from them...I am thinking that is why the lawyer called my landlord?

If this call was affialiated with a PDL company, I highly doubt a lawyer called your landlord. It was most likely an employee from a PDL or bottom feeding CA. If they were pursuing a civil case you would be summons by now, not threatning calls.

So please try to put your account on "deposit only" status. Also if you paid the ILLEGAL companies more than what you borrowed to include any fees then you are done with them.

Please call the LEGAL companies and try to work out a reasonable repayment plan, this will help you feel alot better rather than not knowing what will come of this situation.
