I originally posted this in another thread but thought it would be better to start a new one.

I "borrowed" $300 from the VIP Loan Shop over the internet, and have paid $180 in fees so far (two $90 finance fees and a third one will be charged on 9/9) and nothing on the principal, and I live in Washington state. It's the details that are very sketchy, since I never signed anything with them.

What happened was a year ago I applied for a loan through CashNetUSA and was not approved and ended up going through someone else. Around a month ago I applied through them again and was once again denied, however they gave me a list of affiliate lenders who might be able to get me a PDL. I clicked on VIP Loan Shop and was forwarded to their site, where they told me I was preapproved for a $300 loan. I clicked a button that said "Apply for Loan" or something along those lines, and the next page told me that they would contact me for verification in order to complete the loan.

Where it begins to get shady is I never put ANY information into their website, and can only figure that CashNetUSA had forwarded my information to them when I was forwarded to their site. I figured that after I clicked the Apply button I would have a chance to see their offered loan amounts and would put in my information. I was never shown nor agreed to any of their terms, I never was shown nor agreed to any of their finance fees. In fact a few days later I decided that I did not even want or need the loan and I ignored all of the calls from them.

So sure enough suddenly I have $300 deposited in my account, of which I never approved! I go back over the emails that they had sent to me which got lost in the shuffle since they also apparently sold my email address to about 500 different payday loan places. I received an email from them saying they needed both my electronic signature and to talk over the phone to finalize the loan. Then the very next email from them was 8 minutes later and said my SIGNED CONTRACT had now been received by them! I never signed anything, and in fact when I recieved both of those emails I was at work with no access to my email. The next email said even though we had never spoke on the phone, my signature was recieved, and my employment had been verified so I was approved for the loan. The other thing about that is that my employment information was a year old (from CashNetUSA), at a job I wasn't even at anymore! So they were just flat out lying to me on all fronts.

My biggest mistake was not immediately having the bank send the money back. Although I was able to scrape by at that time, I decided to use the money for bills since it was already in my account (which is part of how they get you), and I would pay them back. I have dealt with numerous other companies and never had any issues.

Now I have been hit with over $180 in fees, and have attempted to email them back and am awaiting a response. Reading a lot of these horror stories have scared me and am trying to figure out how to proceed. To recap, I never put any information into their site, I was never shown their terms and fees, I never signed anything, electronic or otherwise, my so-called "verified" employment history is completely inaccurate, and I never finalized the loan over the phone. How is this even legal? I found that even if I pay the loan back in full they will still charge another $90 finance fee, and after reading some of the stories here they might continue to charge my account! I would appreciate any help you guys might have! Sorry for the lengthy post just wanted to give all the details.

Payday lending is legal in the state of Washington. As far as I know VIP Loan Shop isn???t legal in your state. Illegal lenders won???t be able to take any legal action against you. Close your bank accounts asap so that they can???t debit money from your account in future. You can complaints against them to the Washington Department of Financial Institutions. Their contact detail is as follows:
# Address - Division of Consumer Services, PO Box 41200 Olympia WA 98504
# Phone - (360) 902-8700
# Fax - (360) 725-7827

Is there anyone that can confirm if VIP Loan Shop is illegal in the state of Washington, or does anyone know where I could find out for sure? I would hate to laugh them off the phone for the next month just to find out that I'm being sued for real

EDIT: Also thanks for your reply Sally, I just want to be sure- this whole situation has me freaked out.

Just wanted to post an update on the latest news:

I closed my account on Sept. 25th as per everyone's advice, and sent the VIP Loan Shop an email based on the template located in the "Dealing With Unlicensed Payday Lenders" thread. Since I had paid $270 in "fees" so far, I told them that that amount would go towards my $300 total, and that I needed their address in order to pay them the remaining $30. I never got a reply at that time.

On Sept. 27th I got an email stating that they had attempted to charge my account and did not receive a payment (since my account was already closed).

And on Sept. 29th I received an email from taylor@pdlsupport.com saying that my account with VIP had gone to the collections department and that someone would be in contact with me to work out a payment.

Well I had never even bothered to reply to these messages as they had completely disregarded my emails to them before and after I closed my account.

Well now skip to about an hour ago today (Oct. 10th) and I received two back to back emails from customerservice@theviploanshop.com. The first was sent to thank me for my payment of $390 (lol), and the second was a "Notice of Payment in Full" regarding my loan! :D

Well first off I wanted to thank everyone in this thread and all the others who have given so much time to help all of us in need! I would have been completely lost and at the mercy of this predatory and illegal company without you guys, and this whole thing went from being a very troubling issue weighing on me to an almost painless fix.

I also had another quick question: I never actually even paid back the remaining $30 on my principal (which I know people recommend doing) since they never responded to my email and gave me their physical address to do so. I had still planned on doing that, but now, seeing as how my account is "Paid in Full" is this still advisable? I wanted the peace of mind knowing that I had honestly paid back what I owed, but my fear is that them receiving money from me at this point will just reopen the issue, and they might come at me again after backing off.

Either way, whatever happens regarding the last $30, thanks again so much!
