Anybody ever hear of Wisconsin 2007 Assembly Bill 211? Co-sponsored by the new Assembly Majority Leader Tom Nelson, among others?

Of course not. The Republicans ran the assembly in 2007, so this bill never even got a hearing, much less a floor debate and vote.

This bill, 2007 Assembly 211, would have capped the apr on WI payday loans at 36%, down from the current skys-the-limit rate that the PDL's currently enjoy.

I contacted Rep. Nelson's office in December to ask about the status of this bill coming back to life in 2008, and received a personal call from a staffer in his office who indicated that absolutely, now that the Democrats are in power in the Wisconsin Assembly and Rep. Nelson is in charge, expect to see this bill get the light of day.

I would encourage everyone in Wisconsin to visit google and enter, Wisconsin 2007 Assembly Bill 211, and read it. Then call your state reps and tell them you want this bill brought back to life.

It's time to end the craziness that the PDLs enjoy in WI once and for all.

Maybe we should form our own anti-PDL lobbying organization.

yep I heard of that bill over a year ago and when I spoke to someone from the state about it they told me right off that it wouldn't pass. Mainly because the legal PDL's pay a nice sum of money to the reps under the table to keep the laws the way they are. Thats why WI PDL laws suck. I was told to contact the DOJ and tell everyone I knew to write letters to the DOJ and if enough letters came in then they would bring up the matter and try and do something about it. But as long as the companies keep paying off the state officials we consumers in WI are screwed.
