Getting it together!
Date: Tue, 03/14/2006 - 14:26
The first thing I did is pull all my credit reports and examine them carefully. I checked every page, every word.
The next thing I did is make a list, one page for each credit report, of exactly how I plan to improve my credit, from March of this year to March of next year. I put these things in order from the ones I want to accomplish first, to the ones that aren't AS important to me. Some of the items do overlap, such as certain items I am disputing that are on more than one, or all three credit reports. That's OK though, that means I get to cross more off the list! Also, on each credit report, I highlighted each inquiry that is coming off by 03/07, and put the how many inquiries were coming off on each list. This is a big encouragement for me not to apply for any more credit!
I just thought I'd share these things with you guys, so that maybe you can do the same, just to keep your hopes up and keep going with your credit repair goals!!

This is great mary! You are most definitely 'getting it together

I have done something sorta along these lines. I have a pay sheet attached to each one of my debt files of the original balance and each month when I make a payment on that debt, I log it in the file and take it away from the balance. It kinda helps me to see the balance going down. I also went through all of my debts and on peice of paper, I started with the smallest balance first on down to the highest. I concentrate on the smallest---getting it out of the way, plan for what I have to do to get it out of the way, then when its out of the way, I move down to the next one on the list. I put the money that was going on the first debt that I paid off into the second debt on the list. I believe this is referred to as the 'snowball effect' but it is working GREAT for me. We're getting our income tax back over the next couple of weeks and I am paying some stuff off---a good chunk of the collection agencies. Then the money that was going towards them, is going towards the others. Its a plan that I have and so far as good. Keep up the hard work Mary, you're doing great!!! shirley

Thanks girl!! I like your way the best, the "snowball" effect sounds nice. I think that will work best for me too, once my income is more steady. I am big on the organization stuff, so this was fun for me :) I also have a file for each collection agency/dispute/whatever issue I have :) And I am keeping every tiny scrap of paper that I write on, whether it is a phone number, notes, whatever! Let us know how it goes paying off those collections with your return. :)

I write all over my credit reports..Telephone numbers, actual balances, people I talked to names..
I also write if it's weird what I'm doing--sent a letter on X date..Called on X date..
I also have a spreadsheet with the formulas plugged in to subtract what I owe to each company.
I wrote all over my credit reports too, forgot to mention that!

Me too! I am the same way. I need to learn how to do functions and all that. That way I can tally what I still owe and all that.

also I have to share this---it helps me keep up with who to pay
also I have to share this---it helps me keep up with who to pay and when. I got it from a PSP group that I'm in on the internet (paint shop pro) and its been great! and even better---Its FREE! Its called 'advance diary' and its just awesome!!! Its a desktop calendar that has the months and you can type what all you want and as much as you want each day of each month. I type in on the date that something is due to remind myself of when to pay. I type in when I disputed something and who I called that day, what letter I mailed. I checked and it goes all the way back to 1989 and still keeps going back so i'm not sure how many years ahead or behind it goes, but its a lot!!! It definitely helps out with reminders of who to pay and who to call, who to dispute and so forth. heres the addy. You will have to put in the http and www since we're not allowed to post links. download it and check it out, You will LOVE it! I do. Its one of my most used programs on my computer. It helps me keep it together. let me know what you think!
csoftlab.com/Diary.html or if this doesn't go through, go to google and search 'advanced diary', it will come up right at the top. remember, its free. shirley
