I went out today, came back to a message on my answering machine. It was automated and it said my husbands name. They gave me a phone number to call and a number to reference. They didn't say who they were, so I called the number back. I got an answering machine. It identified the number as being 'Professional Credit management, Inc.". I hung us, as I just wanted to see who they were.

I haven't heard back from these people, just the one phone call, so I have no idea what this is about. But if I start right off with hitting them with a validation request,I may never know what its about. If my track record proves me right, I ask for validation and never hear back from them again. I am curious about what account they are holding.

But I guess if everything is legit, I will hear back from them, if not, it doesn't matter anyways, right.

As long as the company is not trying to tarnish your credit report further, you can sit back. But you need to take actions if they have reported negatively on your file. Check your latest credit file and see if the company has updated your accounts.

As you are not hearing from the company for a long time, a dispute with the CRA must give you positive results by this time.

Phone Number: (870) 932-7030
Fax Number: (870) 932-2612

well, I got 'verification' in the mail today. Kinda strange how the letter goes. It almost looks like court papers but is a 'verified statement of account for arkansas methodist med center'.
Then it says 'duly sworn states on oath that all matters , figures and things contained in the foregoing verified statement of account are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.... then signed by an agent of the hospital before a notary republic.

Then at the very bottom on this same page it says 'this communication is from a debt collector'. two more pages are attached but its only the verification.

No where does it have the collectors name on this anywheres or where to mail the money to or anything. I went over it a few times and nothing but verification of a hospital visit.

Looked on the outside of the envelope and no name only address but its the address of the above collection agency that Roxette gave me the info on.
If I didn't know this from Roxette telling me, I would have no idea who these people are and they state it no where in the letter. They didn't list their agency anywhere in the paperwork.
so should I write them back and ask who this is from for sure and who to make the check out to? or just send the check?

thanks shirley

Also-is there SOL with medical bills?
I just noticed that this was feb 20th of 1999.
All the dates on their invoice paper says 1999 then they have 'billing agreements-01'-'billing agreements-02' then 'bad debt write off 02.

so what are these 'billing agreements'?? I haven't spoken with these people before. Is this their way of re-aging the debt? I have never paid a penny on this debt. our insurance paid almost the whole thing, and that was in 1999. They're not on our credit report and I haven't heard anything from them until now. At least not that I know of. thanks, shirley

Remember, collectors can't issue legal papers to you. Court is set to do that. Collectors try to give the papers utmost legal importance but they cant do anything more than that. If any legal action intends to be taken against you, court will send you the papers and you will have to appear in front of them. Medical debts also have statutes as per the state laws.

Talk to a local lawyer who can resolve these matters. Some states have special provisions for medical bills.

Okay-- I live in Tennessee, does anyone know what the SOL is for medical bills? I live in Tennessee but bill was made in Arkansas. don't know if this makes a difference or not. seems that time has ran out if we're talking the 'norm' of SOL time frames. But it also appears that maybe they've tried renewing. Please check original post on the situation. thanks shirley

The statute of limitations on medical bills like any other unsecured debt is 6 years in Tennessee.
our insurance paid almost the whole thing, and that was in 1999
SOL of Medical debts in Arkansas: 2 years from date services were performed or provided or from the date of the most recent partial payment for the services, whichever is later. Since the account was open in Arkansas, the SOL of this state will be calcultated.

Consult your lawyer and seek some legal help.

okay---just curious, you said 'like any other unsecured debt'...does this mean that 'secured' has a different time table of SOL????

thanks, shirley
