Happy 4TH!!

I hope everyone has a great fourth of July! I know I'm having a great time not working for 5 days!!!
And for those of you doing fireworks...Try the diet coke/mentos thing. Take a 2-liter of diet coke and dump an entire package of mint mentos in, and get away fast. It's a lot of fun!

Nice. Bacardi sounds REALLY nice right now...My little boy is with his Grandma until tomorrow afternoon, so I can indulge!
My husband and I are going out to a wonderful Mexican restaurant later on tonight..It's a total hole on the wall, and their margaritas are truly a work of art. I may just have a few!

i struggle with celebrating independence day because so many americans were still enslaved, though our country was free so many of her people weren't. I always celebate Juneteenth. June 19 1869 is when the slaves along the border found out they were free!

Polly, I liked your spirit of patriotism. :) I started remembering the classes of History which most of us have forgotten. :)
finsfan13, I will be remembering you and this thread when having some Bacardi tomorrow. Have a great time in the restaurant and a lovely dinner. And enjoy your mood with the coke and mintos thing.

LOL Polly...
How on EARTH did you know we were going to the Beltline? Hmmm..did the words "hole in the wall" give it away?
I'm irritated tho... My husband just called and said he wants to go to The Dungeon. Isn't the dungeon dry? I really want a drink.

fins I have no clue where the dungeon is but when I hear hole in the wall, mexican food, and great margaritas my mind always goes to the beltline bar!lol
andy, I am not your typical wasp. I have issues with turkey day too. I will never praise Lincoln as being the liberator that so many do, because if he could have won the war wthout liberating anyone he would have, and he is quoted as saying that.
I love my home country but I am also a critical thinker and I see how the global collective of white supremacy is even more evil and diabolical than it was in years past. Jim Crow has evolved into racial profiling, the 'patriot' act, the criminal injustice system, and I could go on and on.

Polly, the Dungeon is on Chicago Drive...
Wow, it's been a long time since I've heard anyone refer to Jim Crow laws... back home in Florida, my family owns an asphalt company. In the shop in Port Richey Florida there are 3 bathrooms..You know the rest. It is a sad, sad, sad situation. My Grandfather was a terribly ignorant man..Very racist and small-minded. I'm not proud of this..It has always shamed me.

Where on Chicago Drive?
We all have folks in are fams who are like that. My fam has a whole lot of em! There are folks in my extended fam who have disowned me because I gave birth to my beautiful Black children. The nerve of me to fall in love with and sleep with a Black man! That makes me a race traitor, don't ya know? OH well! I'd rather be a person who loves people for what they got going on in their head and their heart, than an ignorant inbred redneck:)

It's actually in Hudsonville. It's pretty good, the top half is a nice steakhouse, and then down in the basement is "The Dungeon". Dark and smoky, nothing but Mexican food.

Michelle---does the shop STILL have a segretated restroom? When I was in Florida (St. Petersburg) 20 years ago my sister told me a story I couldn't believe. We were visiting family and my sis and some of our cousins were going on a church beach day and were traveling to St. Augustine. On the way there they stopped somewhere and the restrooms were segregated and said Whites Only. My sister who has lived all her life in California did not really know what it meant (till someone explained). When she came home and told me I said "WHAT---this is 1986!!! Now I am not so naive as to think that people are not still prejudiced against other races, but I really though that with the passage of Civil Rights Act segregation was abolished.

Lorri walk into an inner city school, then walk into a suburbia school. Segregation is all around us. You might find a few white kids in the inner city school and a few latinos or blacks in suburbia but for the most part it is segregated.
Integration did just enough to f up the good things the black community had going on. Ever heard of the Black Wall Street? Google it sometime. Prior to integration the Black community's were thriving.

Lorri,
Unfortunately, yes..It still does have 3 bathrooms. This is sick and wrong...I remember how that used to disgust my Dad! My uncle is every bit as ignorant as my Grandfather was..and I think he thinks it's funny. Wonder what he'd think if the shoe was on the other foot?
Also..A library in Tampa..When I was in elementary school it had a seperate drinking fountain, but they ripped that out.

I hear ya...I'm angry today..last night some fools on the lake were shooting of fireworks, and my entire house shook and the dog wouldn't stop barking. Needless to say, I slept very little.
Here's a gripe for you, Polly..Last night you talked about Famous Dave's, so my husband and I compromised on Damon's..We went to 44th st..LOUSY!! we got teeny little salads, no bread, tiny little plates of dry ribs...I am so disapointed. Should've stuck with the Beltline.

My daughter and I are going to Famous Dave's today...that way I don't have to bbq out side. I was thinking about heading to Sand Lake for the parade.

I think I'm going to "not feel like cooking" tonight. Let's see if my husband steps up and does something about it..I'm not one for eating out two days in a row, but I'm so depressed about the Damon's thing.
Have fun at Famous dave's...I've never been to the Grandville one, we go to the Muskegon one when we go.

Actually fins we go to the one on the Beltline. My daughter tore up her plate and half of mine! We went to Sand Lake and the kids rode a couple of rides then, we went to my grandparents for dinner. We are home and I am pooped. They want to go downtown to the fireworks. I said 'if' we go we will walk over to the Leonard St. bridge and watch from there, so we can walk home. I don't like getting any further south than the fish ladder on nights like this. I really do not like the crowds down there.

I hear you..My husband just took Andrew down to Grand Haven for the fireworks..I just couldn't deal with all those people tonight..I have to go back to work tomorrow. I HATE going back after a long weekend, I always have a pile of work.
I didn't know there was a Dave's on the Beltline. I'm still hung up on Fire Mountain..I really want to go there soon. Unfortunately I ended up cooking dinner tonight, but it was a really good stir fry. So now I'm home all alone-not a bad thing- and I'm going to kick back with the NFL channel and..In the spirit of Andyyoung..Have a nice cold beer.
